WIBBLE WIBBLE WIBBLE -- I'm going crazy
I keep seeing posts about "wibbling" and I have searched high and low (seriously, more than 2 hours of searching! -- here and on HOP) but I cant find a description or video link (non-quicktime) that will show me what the hell a wibble IS!
Help -- i'm going nuts. I can perform quite a bit of decent contact poi -- and dont doubt I could wibble if I only knew what it was.
I know it involves a change in direction by tapping the handle of poi -- that is it...
any help -- really REALLY specific -- video link maybe -- I know there are some out there...
Thanks,
i'm going nuts
Carl

once the galleries are back up you can find a video called 'matt wibbling at the glade' (i think), under 'meetings', 'sphercular ball 2004'. video section not photo.

A wibble is a more dynamic version of the throw 'tap-back'. So you release a poi and as its being caught you instantly throw it back the way it just came. Wibbling is a progression of this where the poi are potentially continuously tapped back and forth, the contact being a spot just below the handle (which needs to have some reasonable weight BTW or there is nothing to counter the weight of the head of the poi and it'll just fly off in all directions
)
I'll try and knock up a basic vid for you and stick a link up soon- failing that there is as mentioned above, at least one video of wibbling in the galleries
Hope thats some help,
Chutney

haha, no wibbling on spherculism yet i'm afraid. Except a couple of vids that garthy took of me at the glade festival last year.
But this is the "Home of Wibbling" since it was me who forced the term into common lingo
I used to call it 'Slapping the wet fish" but moves like the infamous "Cod Batterer" were never publically accepted.
No time to sort the gallery at the moment,
I've got some new wibbling vids on my laptop i think.
Chutney's description is pretty much spot on.
Learn to throw underarm, ie throw from an outwards butterfly (1 poi) so that when you catch you reverse direction.
Then instead of catching it you tap the handle back so you effectly do an overarm throw. You can practice the overarm throw separately.
So you've got underarm throw >>> tapback
Now do underarm throw >>> tapback >>> tapback >>> tapback >>> tapback >>> tapback>>> tapback>>> tapback >>> tapback>>> tapback >>> tapback >>> tapback>>> tapback >>> tapback>>> tapback>>> tapback
And you're wibbling
To get them really clean, the outwards throw should be tapped back with the palm side of your hand or arm, the inwards throw should be tapped back with the back side of your hand or arm.
The most important part of the wibble is hitting the 'sweet spot' which is an inch or 2 below the handle. The handle must be weighted. You can use same weight as the head but i prefer somewhere between 1/3 and 1/5 the weight of the head.
If you hit the wibble about 4 inches from the handle you do 1 propellor before the wibble, looks tight.
You can also tap the head of the poi so you get a kind of half beat wibble.
Wibble = 1 spin
Dibble = 2 spins
Tribble = 3 spins
Polibble = 4 or more spins
Fibble = Foot Wibble
Then of course there are countless variations of 1 poi wibbling and 2 poi wibbling patterns.
Enjoy,
m
