Matt is leaving UK and heading for....

Christchurch, New Zealand,

Sphism/smilesmiley

My girlfriend and I just split up Sphism/sadsmiley

I'm renting out my flat, quitting my job and moving to NZ for 6 months or so.

So, anyone live out there and wanna meet up.

I do a good line in 2wibbling workshops, i'd love to learn some traditional poi.

My brother has adopted a maori grandmother who says 'she can teach me a thing or two', she used to spin as a child and can weave poi from flax.

I'm quite exited about the prospect of moving away, and quite sad about lots of things.

Been an odd couple weeks, had amazing high time at uberpoi, came back and got dumped, for good reason, but hey. I'm just a bit crap.

SO i'm leaving sept/oct, i have a place to stay but know only 2 people so any help with my big life shift will be very much appreciated,

And any love that you wanna send my direction to stop me feeling down certainly won't go to waste,

NZ here i come,

m

8O Dude...

You sure know how to mix it up Sphism/smilesmiley

When I first read your post I actually felt pretty sad, but heck, you're going to have an absolutely amazing time in NZ, so I'm really happy for you.

Remember that conversation he had about lifes ups and downs being like a pendulum when I was at your place in Oct? I reckon now might be a good time to revisit that idea and not beat yourself up too much Sphism/smilesmiley

Please don't forget about us, the spherculists you have inspired and aided through from newbies to hardcore spinners- I for one have have gained so much both directly and indirectly from this site that my life has truly (and I mean this totally seriously) changed. I don't know that all the members of the site will feel such a personal attatchment to the site, but I really have gained immeasurably from participating in the site, both in spinning and the wider community. For that I personally thank you.

We must try and hook up some type of |S| meet before you go away- maybe another Ball to celebrate your safe passage Sphism/smilesmiley

Heya...

Have a great time in NZ Sphism/gigglesmiley Don't feel down.. I have no great words or stunning advice or anything, but here's a  , hope you get happy once your in NZ Sphism/smilesmiley

I know what you mean Chut. I cannot begin to describe how much this community has helped and changed me. I know I haven't been very active recently, but nothing changes how attached I am to this place Sphism/smilesmiley Thank you Matt, for creating this in the first place, and helping the lot of us turn into bad ass spinners Sphism/smilesmiley

Now go and have a rocking good time!

Catheriney

best of luck man.

funnily enough i might be heading out to NZ myself to do some organic farming towards the end of this year, having yesterday shelved plans to go back to uni in london for the time being. so maybe catch you out there.

i wont add to what chut and poikid have said except to say that i agree with all of it. thanks for all you efforts.

peace

WOW .. seems it's been a busy week-end full of emotions and important decisions !!
I had a great week-end with you at uberpoi Sphism/gigglesmiley - despite my flu & consequent bad mood - ... I'm just gonna be missing your hilarious laugth :22
btw your renagade was really excellent :5
I wish you all the luck & happiness for your southern emisphere winter (summer)
and as ever I'm in line with Chut, Poikid & Jon regarding what spherc brought us
Olivier

Man, that seems to be a pretty crazy thing to do. I like it. Um... I'm pretty short on words right now. but good luck in NZ.

Thanks everyone,

Yeah brighton just getting me down lately. I work too hard, have little to show for it and get too stressed. My health suffers and i'm just not loving it any more. Feel like i'm in a bad rut and think i need to go to NZ to get out of it.

I spent a year in san francisco in 2000 and it did me the world of good.

Thanks for all the kind words,

matt

ps i thought my renegade kinda sucked

Hey dude, that sucks about the gf, but it sounds like you're turning it into an opportunity to do something new and exciting - good luck with it! Sphism/gigglesmiley

sorry to hear about the crap ball life threw ya... but it looks like you're knocking it right back Sphism/winksmiley..

while in NZ you should look up Dragon... can't be that big of a place.. and I'm sure he could hook you up with people from there..

good luck and have fun on the other side-o-the-globe..

the real reason matt is going to new zealand....Sphism/winksmiley

hehehehehe

you spent ages trawling the web for that didn't you rev? but interesting article in terms of the observations...

Haha, nice one rev,

The matriarchal society certainly does appeal tho.

NZ is the only place i've ever talked to people about where one of the first things they say to me is 'they've got a great government'....what???? no one ever says that about anywhere, and yet 3 different people said it to me.

So i'm intrigued.

I'm pretty excited about the whole thing. I'm planning on going to vancouver en route to see nick woolsey. SO if anyone is interested in meeting up there for one of nick's retreats, book early cos there'll be official world class wibbling workshops Sphism/winksmiley

Anyhoo,

best get on with my work,

laters

m

jon- Fark.com everything you need to know.. right in one place..

matt- I'd love to make it up to vancouver if I could.. where can I get more info on it..

probably at www.playpoi.com or www.thevenue.com

cheers for the link Sphism/gigglesmiley

Man, you'll be not a few hours from my place. Curses to driving laws!

WOW! Oh my goodness, I should have read through posts before blathering on like an idiot over in sphercommerse.....

since you'll be travelling through the north american hemisphere on your way to NZ, will you be swinging through Nevada by any chance???

I hope you are doing OK. I had a similarly rough time of it a few months back, as you know ... I'm so impressed by your decision to get up and move and shake it up a bit. It's inspirational.

many many hugs and love from New York!

xoxoxo

if your stopping in Newfoundland... tell me!!!!!

Sadly I don't plan on heading to USA for a long time as Bush and his croney's now require me to give them lots of info about myself.

I am plannin gone heading to Vancouver to see Nick Woolsey tho. So you are all formally invited to his place for a meenik poi retreat with sphercular overtones Sphism/winksmiley

Feeling completely done in at the moment, i'd arranged for some lovely people to move into my flat but they pulled out last minute. Buggers.

My life is a mess, i'm very depressed, i want out...

Anyone wanna live in brighton for 6 months - 1 year and rent my flat off me?

Saucy, i'll have a lot more time to work on sphism once i'm in NZ (hopefully)

Webshop is still on the cards, as is the dvd and everything else....

Thanks everyone,

Big Love,

Matt

i have a mate who might be interested, and if theres jobs there, i wouldnt mind livin in brighton again. spent 5 beautiful years there and its a wicked place. whats rent costs etc like? pm me or post up here and let me know. my plans are super fluid at the moment so cant promise anything...

hey there beautiful,

You'd be welcome to come stay in Belfast for a while first, if you'd like.

We can't offer much - just a couple of adoring ladies who will be amazed by your every wibble Sphism/gigglesmiley

Sorry things haven't been going so well, but I'm sure you'll have a marvellous time in NZ...

Take care
Love and hugs

hey dude...

sorry to hear things are on a downer at the moment but chut's right to remind you about that pendulum, thinsg can always get better! i'm also sorry to hear you're leaving brighton as my g-friend and my sister are both moving down there in september/october so was hoping to see you about... oh well...

good luck with the big move, i'll be interested to hear what you learn about traditional maori wibbling! before then though i reckon you should get yourself along to the bristol convention before you leave for some serious cheering up...

take care man

chris Sphism/gigglesmiley

matt, i wish you all the best i can. and i hope that the new life on the other side of the world is all it is cracked up to be... new zealand dose sound nice.

i agree with chris, you should definetly try and come to bristol before you leave... would be good to see you before you leave.

well, i just found out my ex hooked up with another guy last weekend Sphism/sadsmiley

everything in my life is fucked

i seem to have pushed everyone in my life away

similar thing happened about 6 years ago, i thought i was past all that but it seems he same old ghosts always come back to haunt me.

life really sucks right now

everything is fucked

m

*gives you a gentle hug* The only thing that will help is time. I am in the same boat you are, just five months further along. Sphism/tonguesmiley Poi helps me a lot, it's very relaxing and I've learned a lot from this site in the three weeks I've been spinning. Just wish I'd stop tangling my poi every other move.

Matt!

Back from the burn and popped in here to check up on ya. How are you holdin' up? Have you begun your travels yet?

Hugs and love from NYC ....

Reagan

<hugs>

... just realised this hasnt been updated for a while.... hope things are better now, NZ will be great!
take care of yourself

Things are looking really good at the moment and i'm smiling lots Sphism/smilesmiley yay

Thanks for your support everyone, this has been a gruelling yea for me.

However, tomorrow i get paid £5,500 for work i did over the summer, i've moved out of my flat, which was really hard work. But i've thrown out loads of old rubbish and the rent should cover my mortgage pretty well.

I'm currently in devon at my parents, haven't worked for (can't even remember how long) about 6 weeks or something.

I've found a flight to nz for next monday for £700 which is very good.

I'm trying to take my laptop and pc out to nz with me to make the dvd with and do some freelance. Extravagent i know but it's a tiny pc and very necessary for video making.

THink i'm gonna bite the bullet and buy After effects to make it with. Tried out loads of different things to make it with but i can make it really amazing with AE.

Visa and passport are both sorted and i've been invited up to a fire retreat 5 hours north of christchurch 22nd-24th which is just what the doctor ordered. ie week one: meet loads of great fire spinners from the area and hang out in a beautiful place Sphism/smilesmiley

In february i'll be going to brisbane to teach workshops at uberOz, meet loads of aussi spinners and see bluecat, meenik and dom.

Not forgetting i get to see my brother for the first time in 2 years and live in his lush new house.

Life's looking pretty sweet.

Big Love to you all,

matt

sounds excellent! the joy of travelling.... glad we could meet up before you left the rainy climes of blighty. take it easy, as im sure you will. looking forward to the finnished dvd Sphism/smilesmiley
peace

glad to hear you're all smiles before you leave... Sphism/gigglesmiley

rosie says she saw you in the roots garden the other week for a chat about sunday roasts... we ended up back in the lion an lobster again this week though as she couldn't remember any of the places you told her. was still good though... Sphism/smilesmiley

i was gonna ask how the dvd was going but am stoked to hear you're gonna take some time over it with the proper gear. can't wait to see how it turns out after the little preview you showed me!

i've also been meaning to ask you if you could put me in touch with rowan cos i can't seem to get hold of any Bad Science anywhere... that stuff was wicked.
:44
hope the move goes well an you find that monster front wheeler you've always wanted... take care man! :15
