mmmm, so this is very much an idea that i hope some people will feel is worthwhile and that we can make happen at some point in the future. spherc has members from everywhere and links with a fair number of euro websites. and we have international/foreign language forums that have yet to be fully exploited. so..... what say you to a sphercular tour of europe to spread the word of poi? and basically have a load of fun....
first off this would be a totally 'not for profit' venture involving travelling across europe to various cities and camping or living in hostels. or homes of exceedingly kind sphercularists/spinners who are part of the website or not and would like to get involoved. the more interest there is from merbers in france, czech, germany, spain, wherever, the easier this becomes. the international forums and any contacts abroad would be useful here.....
second, ideally, it involves spinning all over europe, which is really where people in euro counties can help out, by organising/pre organising a place to spin and even perhaps something like an advertising campaign to let the public know that there will be poi spinners teaching/demonstrating/getting up to foolery in their area. this could involve contacting police in the case of fire etc in necessary/people who own private land who would be interested in hosting such an event (bars pubs etc).
thirdly it involoves people from this site getting together to travel, spin, teach and share the knowledge that we all know to anyone who is interested. and of course taking about a month off work/being able to afford to travel for a month
there are so many communities of poi spinners that im sure this would be possible with enough planning. although people's lives change constantly and noone can be sure what they might be doing if something like this was planned for say, a years time, if its based round the community of spherc, and other communities of fire spinners, regardless of minor changes, a lot could still be accomplished.
the thing is... how much do you want to get involoved? for instance, if there was a load of people who were willing to drive, then it could become a road trip. if you can fix up a venue and get people interested in coming to workshops to learn, then you can do advertising. if youve been round europe and know the ropes, you could help with planning. if you live abroad, or know communities that do, then you can contact them.
if you have any interest in this, any area where you feel you have expertise, even if you dont want to go on a trip, then lets put our heads together. to be a success, this will need a load of planning, and even before that just talking about posibilities and ideas, contacting as many people as we can over the next year, geting communities together, and trying to fix something up. a possible, and probably realistic timeframe would be July/August of next year.
if you think its an idea which has no hope of success and you can see problems, then please post here. if there are people interested in getting this off the ground, then all the input we can get will be invaluable. positive or negative.
heres hoping.....
peace

id be well up 4 it. just came back from europe, went from amsterdam to hungary through germany and back to amsterdam through switzerland. czech was my fav. didnt do any poi but im a million times better at 3 ball. im dying to go back or just travel anywhere doing poi. twas my 1st excursion tho so don't cout on me a "knowing the ropes" kinda guy
iv met loads of people that have toured getting paid by nightclubs and the like. workshop idea is good, also we can go to other workshops or events. there are bound to be a few peeps interested.
is this the only place u have posted? like u said lots of online poi communities. also i dont think it should be poi exclusive, there are lots of worthy devil stickers and ball/club jugglers out there. nice little travelling cirus. might still be good to have it mainly poi people tho.
lovely idea, ill go chat to all my poi mates, c if neone is interested and get back to you.

nice one
the circus idea is cool, i dont think it has in any way to be poi exclusive, but i think poi spinners do constitute the largest community of all the arts, (please correct me if im wrong), and so i thought that as a basis for the whole thing that would be a good place to start. i havent posted anywhere else apart from here because this is where i hang out, but spread the word by all means!!! i reckon summer would be the best time to do it as then there are festivals, people are off work on holiday, and there might be more interest in the whole thing generally. look forward to hearing back from you

no no your probably right there. poi community does seem to congregate in large numbers. well i reckon HOP is the smartest place to post but i havn't used it in ages. cant even remember if i have a login. no word from my friends but im out of the country again, back in 3 weeks (nothing exotic just in france visiting me ma).
aaaah u dick!! just read your thread about poland. i used to live around reading, was constantly trying to find spherculists in the area. ( returned by bus? daaaam. it was hard enough going amsterdam => berlin on the train) I just moved to london. what uni do you go to? i dropped out, no uni for me he he he. u in reading now? thats where most of my poi friends live.
i think that we should set up some events for after xmas to recruit a few people. we could consider minibus or something. u can get a inter rail discount for a group, probably still quite expensive. cost me £300 odd, but that was 1month unlimited. obviously we need to find object manipulators that want to travel and are available, and we need it to not be expensive.
hmm much to think about we have.

im slightly disapointed that no other spherculists have shown interest. i may even have to go round thier houses with a baseball bat, although that may be a job for my sword of truth..... right how many members are there? damn...2267.... better make that the semi automatic sword of truth.
well anyway im back in the country in 11 days. probably gonna be busy for a little while, got to get a job sorted and iv enrolled in a weekend course to become a fully qualified massage practioneer. and i just found out that shaolin temple UK is about 4 tube stops away from where i live. lots to be getting on with.
ill chat to the guys in my local juggling shop, see if i can get a card up around the desk or some such thing. im planning to hit as many juggling circles as possible (dont worry not literally)
charity? transport things?
please dear god elaborate.
please excuse my drunkenness.

Jon- sorry not to have responded sooner- I really like the idea and I wanted to say so weeks ago- i've just been a bit lame.
As mention ed, the factors really come down to money- even with accommodation sorted 9crashing on the loors of happy spinners world wide) the travel costs would shaft you, especially with no income- personally i'd be there in a second if I had the cash, but alas I don't, so it would remain a pipedream for me.
Off topic:- Ae you in london now then? I so I hope you're going to Spitz- you'll be like a child in a sweetshop

good good. thing is i havent really got onto this after the initial idea. basically because im looking for work since returning to uk and my spare time goes on that or drinking rum to ease the depression of insufficient employment and other shit that all seems to be going horribly wrong in my life at the moment....
as far as money goes - it all depends on your expecations, what you are prepared to put up with in terms of comfort, and how you are prepared to get about. blatantly there would have to be financial minimum, BUT if gigs were involved, that would generate on the road income, or at elast free food and drinks at bars/clubs etc. having people speaking the languages would make negotiating shit easier. i reckon this would need to be booked in advance, so there would also need to be an itinerary of sorts. any festivals that might be interesed also would throw up possibilities.
now, if there was sponsoorship, that might sort out a van/ transport of some kind. the problem then would be finding peoples who was willing/able to drive. i cant so.....
if a charity was involved that might encourage sponsors to get involved. also thinking about getting media involved, like C4 who do documentaries type things, and i know some people in the industry who i will eventually get hold of and air the idea to. there is also the arts council who give funding to people for stuff. also a charity swing might avoid potential tax problems- which i cant even think of what they could be.
i have had this, along with hundreds of other things like articles and tutorials in the back of my mind, and when i have the time i will get onto it.
off topic: chut, thatnks for the belated reply - yes i have been to spitz, but have found it a rather bizare experience. i met dom there, and ewan, whose inspirational stuff with double meteor trips me out. and its great being around so many other people into sphercular arts. but i havent learnt as much as i thought i would, and there are very few people into contact poi that ive seen, and thats what ive been onto recently. the lack of coherent workshops leaves me slightly bemused, because people turn up, and theres no structure for them, so they spin alone for an hour, leave, and then dont come back. anyhows, im teaching one night a week, and that night is tuesday, so..... eventually im going to start teaching workshops there, but right now i cant make it. ho hum.
