My Matt inspired all-kevlar rope poi reach a new stage, wibbles and throws now working nicely Sphism/smilesmiley (longarm is a bit crap, but thats mostly down to little or no outddor practice in 6 months Sphism/smilesmiley). This my first test of those poi.

Also note just how much stuff I've got from Spherculism Sphism/gigglesmiley Thanks Matt Sphism/gigglesmiley

Mr_chutney, that vid was exellent dude,, love the throws and wibbles,, its been a while since i woz inspired,, good job man,

Dude that was awesome! I am definatly going to counterweight my handles now. That looks like so much fun. I'm running off to go play after watching that.

Those handles are just knots, prior to the counter-weighting.

Wow? Really? So with counter-weighted handles can you do even more neat stuff?

Yup, and they make timing the stuff I do on there easier-

You can see why I was really unsure about really counterweighting my handles when I could get my poi to do that without- I still don't know how I feel about not persevering with my poi made that way- they were really good. Wibbles, dibbles, tribble etc are posssible with them, but they are much, much faster and more difficult than with counterweights. Contact poi, propellors etc are much much harder without though.

My torment continues Sphism/smilesmiley

CHutney, i'll watch this when i find a quicker connection, at my dad's house at the mo'.

Knotted handles are counterweighted??? There's no difference, apart from the total weight. But you can just use longer socks if you want heavier knots. Plus you can knot them in different ways to spread or concentrate the weight.

I thought that thread on hop was about whether to have a handle or no handle (handle being knots or balls or anything which keeps them stretched out in the air)

The lesser the weight the quicker they spin, and the less they stay straight in the air, and the less control you have at the moment of 'wibble'.

Those finger braid knots for the handle work excellently as counter weights, you still using that technique? Cos if you're suggesting that that's not a counter weighted handle then i'd have to disagree. THat's how i started wibbling.

THe main problem with knots is when you play outside. THE ONLY REASON i added a counterweight to my handle was so that I could play outside at festivals and in parks. I made the head a lot heavier and the knots just don't cut it, so you gotta add the counter weight. If you only play indoors then no handle weight is needed.

However. I now wouldn't change my current wibbles for anything. THe added weight, head and handle, makes wibbling and tangling very nice and smooth and stops me from spinning too fast.

Looking forward to seeing this footage, the stuff you sent me rocks Sphism/smilesmiley

Laters,

m

I know what you're saying about the knots being a counterweight- i'm not disagreeing, I guess i always just felt that the additional weight other than that of a knot itself was going a bit far.

My poi are now similar to what i hear yours are like- bounce juggling balls (oddballs) as heads, and bouncy mini-tennis balls woven into the loopthroughlooop handles you showed me. I love the heavy heads, but knotted handles just won't cut it against something that heavy, so the counterweighting has become necessary.

Re: the vid- to be honest the stuff I sent you is a bit more polished but maybe a bit less experimental (oh, and the venue is exactly the same :S)

I guess apart from your vids i've not seen many other throwy vids, so i just wanted to put something out there with a bit moreexploration of throwy possiblities. I'm really concentrating more than anything at the moment on developing my movement, stance and flow, trying to see my spinning from a perfomrance point of view, as i think it will clean up and refine my spinning to something with less superfluous movement 9I stumble around like Ozzy Osbourne in that vid- no direction, just stomping around, lifting feet etc- its all a bit cumbersome).

Still, the few responses I had on it have been nice, so its obviously making some people smile Sphism/smilesmiley

what did you use to weight them chut? my socks realy peave me because they don't toss like my sticks do..

nice stalls and throws by the way... I have a few stalls and stuff that I'll have to show you sometime next month when I get a break.. if you dont learn them before then anyway Sphism/winksmiley

sphercular man.. :56 :7

A new video of Jon 'Hyperlight' and myself playing with the latest prototypes of his revolutionary new glow-poi should be gracing this thread in the very near future Sphism/smilesmiley

Awesome, i'm still totally up for developing a flash based webpage that outputs the hyperlight code Sphism/smilesmiley

Can't wait to see the video, you should stick it up in the gallery.

oh dude didnt notice this thread Sphism/confusedsmiley.. its a good vid dude,,and i cant wait to test those glos out Sphism/tonguesmiley

very slick there chut.. It reminds me of why I used to do tosses, and makes me wonder why I ever stopped.. Kudos

A couple friends and I absolutely LOVE those glow poi!!
We were wondering
a)how fragile they are and
