So awhile back I decided to give up spinning and move on, I felt there was a lack of direction in the community and nothing new and exciting happening in the world of poi.
Recently I picked up a pair of my old sock poi well (actaully it was a towel at a swim meet and it behaved more like meteors then poi) and started spinning again, and now I'm wondering what and who's new, is there anything really mindblowing going on now like when tangles became popular? and what ever happened to poiinthepark.net and most importantly are there any really good new videos out, or ones with bluecat in them?
man I missed this stuff....

check the video thread... rovo has a vid out.. and there's a couple of others floating about.. I released a practice vid, which should wet your appetite for some of the new stuff.. well not really new.. its all going on 3 years old or so.. but its a whole slew of basics that got overlooked, and most people didnt learn becase the descriptions were a bit obtuse for a while.. my poi goes punk thread covers some of it.. though I've been slacking hard on getting that project finished.. I just have too much on my plate..
you might also want to check out millineums vid on hop.. or search for yuta's vid.. those were also quite nice.. glass posted one of andy's vids in his blog thread on Hop.. its and old vid and very basic but VERY VERY nice.. which proves the old addage 'make the hard look easy and make the easy look amazing.. '
as far as things being dead... I think that's going to filter through for a bit.. Like I mentioned above, there's a lot on everyone's plate because of the ton of basics we all have to master before moving forward.. so its going to seem like no progress has been made in the past year or 2..
I'd kep your eyes peeled for the |s| dvd.. the vid that arashi claims to one day eventually someday in the future possibly release a vid other than the one he put on the dvd.. so that will expand things a bit more..
but I'd really just be trying to get a grip on all the basics.. most of us havent.. and we'll be regretting it too when we have to go back and learn it to learn te new stuff.. haha..

Nice to see you about Auchlo
Its been a very long tme
Further from what rev said, the trends have been Anti-spin and particularly flowers (everybody is doing anti-flowers etc now
)
Continuous tangling is much more common, though few have truly mastered it (me included
) Throws and wibbling continue to become more popular.
HOP is in a bit of turmoil- lots af arguing and the like, but I like that natural selection will sort that out
Stick about eh?

Good to see you about again achluo.
I'm down under and the site has been in freefall for a while, but lots of stuff in the side lines.
i just wrote a big story in the home page about what's going on.
It's all seemed pretty stagnant recently.
The biggest thing i know of is that there seems to be a real understanding of how lots of different areas of spinning fit together. ie spin, antispin, tangles and atomics. Seems to be a shift in understanding happening...
laters,
m

like matt says, i don't think it's so much about what crazy new midboggling moves have come out lately (although they're always fun) but more about all of us gaining a better understanding of what we do which leads to better more interseting spinning in general. if you consider spinning to be just about moves you'd be missing the point...
at the same time i do believe that doubles contact staff is getting progressively sicker as is the standard of contact in general (even though the baton twirlers have got it all covered anyway). three staff is definately on the menu too thanks to olive, immakode and kyle mclean. in poi, i still haven't bent my head round all the atomic stuff which arashi seems to enjoy and as rev says there's still loads of basics everyone's working on!
although online, Hop's got a bit crowded, spherculism isn't on full form and pip's gone down, one thing for sure is that the community isn't lacking direction. in terms of meets and gatherings we're more pulling together. besides spherculsim 2's on the way, Pk's gonna put PITP back up and there's both Spherculism and Play DVD's on the way which are both gonna be hugely inspirational!!!
if you really are getting bored maybe you could try getting into performing with others because that puts a completely different slant on things...

Hey, I've moved into my dorm room at Sir Wilfred Grenfell, but I left all my props home.
I've been playing with a pair of socks inside another pair of socks recently though. Since pip went down is there anywhere to get all those old videos with bluecat in them like user 9, how to, black and blue, and the spiniach sessions? I'd love to see all my old favorites again, someone should put them on youtube.

I think the file is like 10 mb, I'm not really sure about how to get it to anyone though. I wouldn't feel comfortable putting it up on youtube or anything since its not that great, but if you want it, message me or something.

it's over 100 mb, I'm going to see about having a shorter one made, or find someway to get a smaller sized file...
