what kind poi do you swing?

I swing 4 kinds:

glowstick poi- self-explanatory
beaming poi- ultra-bright LED poi on their way here
flower poi- I'll show a picture later, it's basicly a battery shaped poi head with ribbons and flowerstick edges at the end.
battery poi: the non-fire version of the weka fire poi.

I started with beginners poi from Home Of Poi and now I practice on fire poi.

Started off with standard tail poi when initially learning then got a set of cone poi (i.e. non-stretchy sock style) for learning more difficult stuff. When I started learning things like isolations and hyperloops and things requiring a lot of precision I moved into sock poi with heavy rubber juggling balls in the end... which spin great but a) bruise when they hit you and b) bounce off of each other in random directions when you fuck up! 8O

I've got fire poi and even a set of fire ropes which I've had for months and not even got round to getting chains and grips for. Fire doesn't hugely interest me... I've also got a set of Aerotech meteors I use as poi and a set of Aerotech globalls as well which I'm using a lot lately.

i started off on tail poi as well.
then bought a set of long fire poi.
then started using socks with tennis balls which were crap.
then made some tennis ball chains but need to change the attatchments before they'll be any good...
then made a set of short fire poi.
and today i've just bought some nice bouncy stripey socks and put juggling balls in em!!
i also have aerotech balls which i put on persil bags with handles on!!
i've just bought some shoelaces and glowsticks for a rave this weekend too!!

they all spin differently and have their pluses and minuses but i'm in love with my socks again at the moment!!! Sphism/gigglesmiley

next i wanna make some double headed fire heads i reckon....

I am fascinated by the fire...so I spin huge heavy torches on long chains. They are quite a workout and can burn for 8 or 9 minutes sometimes. I like the weight because they tend to have a mind of their own. So in the end it looks something like me moving through the flames rather than the flames moving around me.

I use to use glowsticks, but gave it up since the glowsticks around here are crap quality.
I mainly use socks weighted with hacky sacks.
I have a pair of electroglo poi, with #13 ball chain, but I think the chain is a bit to long, may have fixed that now though.

I have a pair:
Comet-Poi ~Sphism/gigglesmiley/~
Beaming-Poi °Sphism/tonguesmiley/°
Fire-Poi * Sphism/coolsmiley/*

i too started out with the tailed variety (of HOP origin)..

i just some fire chains for chrissy tho..which is wikkid...they got standard tube core wicks tho..so hopin to get hold of some cathedral style ones sometime in the near future .. Sphism/gigglesmiley

oh and how could i forget my lufly sock poi...altho one jus got a hole in the other day...so might have to invest in a new pair (given my darning skills leave a bit to be desired)
:32

Currently my faves are stripey sock poi with beanbags in them. A friend gave me UV-reactive socks to put over the stripeys... haven't seen them in blacklight yet though...

Prior to that, my faves were a set of short cone poi made in South Africa. And prior to that, practice poi from Thailand.

I have a pair of streetlight poi, but they're really heavy because I made vinyl "deflectors" to keep the streetlights from breaking.

I'm on my second set of home-made fire poi.

big collection of other miscelaneous practice poi.

I use -----

Shoestrings with Glows attached for my night time spinning

Nice tailed Poi from HoP whenever I'm in a slower spinning mood...more whimsical, less kick butt

Some poi my mom made me as a gift , just nylon cording braided together, net at the end with tennis balls in them. I use these the most, because they have , I think, the perfect weight for all of my spinning. I'm going to get some glow in the dark tennis balls and see if that'll be any fun Sphism/gigglesmiley

Started with some pink/purple long-tailed beauties form Oddballs, also use the lovely 8 minute burning cathedrals my blokey made me for Christmas. I use glowsticks on uv shoelaces when I go clubbing, also have taped these onto my firestaff on occasions where no burning is allowed.

heh
homemade poi for the creative/desperate(and cheap Sphism/gigglesmiley ) right here

i use 36 inch, black round shoelaces(soft) for strings: 89c - .00

6inch glowsticks - best bought from camping department (party section kind suck)

for slower more poiish moods and practice i use dead glowsticks with a few wraps of ducktape around it for weight... provides as much weight as you want and is pretty soft on the mistake impacts (unless ur a guy 8O no degree of softness matters when it comes to gettin it where the sun dont shine) as far as whackin ur face, i imagine its much softer than beamers :o ...

anyways, great for practice indoors and out... im dying for a fire set, ball chain all the way Sphism/gigglesmiley, this magic store closeby has some on order Sphism/coolsmiley ... and id love some beamers... need a job first :x doh

The poi I use most often are my sock poi weighted with some home-made juggling balls. I've also got some fore poi with metal cord for chains which I don't really like cos you can't do hyperloops or wraps very well.

My idea of poi heaven would be light-able sock poi Sphism/gigglesmiley

Got myself some beautiful, white/uv flags from Oddballs about nearly 3 weeks ago... I am so in love with them, but they're bloody hard work!! And I've been using socks (which were a donation from Jez and Abi at Spitz) for more technical stuff (ie. moves with more than two syllables in the name.)

I just bought some ties from a garage sale. Stuck tennis ball in the end and stitched it in a bit. Working great Sphism/gigglesmiley Ties, a dime a piece. Got lufly paisleys on them...........heaven..

Tails (rarely used)
Stripey Socks
Short fire
Glo sticks

First spun with some blokes tennis ball home-made jobs.
Learnt to weave with some nasty tail poi without handles brought back by a friend from Glastonbury- all my knuckles were raw within a week!

2 sets of tail poi, one which i've had for ages and learnt with until very recently.

I've made various tennis ball sets, including some with tennis balls at the the normal head end and another just above the handle, in an effort to make throwable poi. I didn't practice much Sphism/smilesmiley

Currently using horrible normal socks with juggling hackeys in- they look rediculous, but have transformed my spinning (any got any ideas as to where I can find some good stripey socks/nets?)

I've got a pair of HOP electroglowers which I was considering selling until I shortened them by 9 inches each last night; they're completely transformed Sphism/gigglesmiley

Oh, and thanks to the good old student loan I have a lovely set of Aerotech meteors on their way for round about my birthday in a week and a bits time Sphism/gigglesmiley
