Trick of the Week

TRICK OF THE WEEK

The idea: Post videos of little tricks, combos and patterns. No high production values, no pre-madonnas. Enough of us have access to webcams, dvs, video cameras phones or digital cameras with video capabilities that there really isn't an excuse not to post little clips of new things here- we can provide the webspace, you just need to giveus the ideas.

To kick things off, my smileless but I hope interesting little head grap/airwrap pattern I've been loving recently Sphism/gigglesmiley

Sphism/smilesmiley sweet move,, very smooth too man,, these type of tricks remind so much of yoyos ,, its a nice variation to break up normal routines,, i shall be playing with it Sphism/winksmileySphism/gigglesmiley

here be something ive been playing with, allthough its a lil sloppy it is fun Sphism/gigglesmiley

Sweet Sphism/gigglesmiley

I think matt calls those half wibbles 'ibbles'- I'm playing more with propellory stuff and the standard 2wibble split time pattern, with some nice cross-arm wibbles dropped in- TOTW for those to follow Sphism/gigglesmiley

sweet so im ibbling now Sphism/tonguesmiley lol.. those propellors are uber hard,, thats how the ibble come about funny enough!

great thread! may it live long and prosper Sphism/smilesmiley

Re: Wonderful idea Mr. Chutney!!!

I re-post my trick of the week Sphism/tonguesmiley

(foot wibble to whip catch)

Acciaio

acciaio - that is funky!

Thanx Sphism/winksmiley

Gizmo I have finally seen your video...cool I'm going to film something that I'm working on that comes out from moves like yours!!!well done!!!
Throttle is just comeing(finally I can have a real video-camera to show what I mean for contact poi)

Acciaio

Sphism/smilesmiley Acciaio, that move rocks man, actually made me drop my jaw lol.. how often can you pull it off?..or have you got it licked? Sphism/tonguesmiley

and i so cant wait for the next vid to be posted in here ! Sphism/gigglesmiley

Sphism/gigglesmiley Is not too solid but I can do the foot wibble nearly 2 times on 3 tryes...
The whip catch after it need a perfect timeing and is a lot more difficoult...I close it 1 or 2 times on 10 tryes with many body movement and 1 time on 20 like the vid Sphism/tonguesmileySphism/tonguesmileySphism/tonguesmiley
But I'm not afraid...working on it in a few weeks you can improve the percentage.... be sure....in contact poi I think that the main focus is to focalize the move and to learn the exact timeing with your brain than is only practice!!!

 I've find something for the next week  I've teached it to three or four people in Paris but nobody can actually do it Sphism/tonguesmiley
Let's enjoy the poi on poi moves!!!

Acciaio

8O Sphism/gigglesmiley

It doesn't matter how many times I see it, it stillmakes me smile Sphism/smilesmiley

I look forward to see your and everyone elses further contributions in what is already likely to be my favourite thread Sphism/gigglesmiley

Ok...something that I developed today Sphism/gigglesmiley

I haven't seen videos with someone doing an helicopter and today I found that I can do quite easily it...then let's share it!!!

a little add on-->wibble->foot wibble Sphism/tonguesmiley ->helicopter and a try of throw with it

enjoy it(not so impressive like the other one Sphism/tonguesmiley )!!!

Acciaio

Acciaio

Your helicopters (propellors) are sound, but have you tried getting them more fluid, with your hand further away from the head of the poi- then you can get into a very, very pretty and very very hard full contact propellor, like you would see devilstick players doing Sphism/gigglesmiley Cool trick though- I can't do it properly or your way (not well anyway Sphism/gigglesmiley)

NEW TOTW!

I discovered his cheeky hand switch when playing with horizontal stalls- its darned hard to spot if you get it tight and would be an excellent performance move if done BTB with some different coloured socks or aerotechs Sphism/winksmiley

TOTW2

Enjoy!

8O NIIIICE !!,,, that is matrix stuff dude,, looks well cool.. you wanna try that with two diff colour poi man,, that would be a head trip all right !! Sphism/gigglesmiley

*BUMP*

Just incase poiple have missed this thread. I think its pretty cool Sphism/gigglesmiley You?

It is definately pretty cool.

Actually I thought I would add my little snag video to your thread because your thread is so cool it might make my video cooler just by being associated with it. Sphism/winksmileySphism/gigglesmiley

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaNO687ti7o

Naaah, its not officially cool because you've posted in it :p

Those 'snags' (horrible name for such a cool concept!?) are really sweet I will endeavor to stop being lazy and have a play.

Hopefully I might even find something worth posting as a new TOTW Sphism/gigglesmiley

Sphism/coolsmiley maaan i like those rovo,, had a quick dabble earlier,, i could get it to "snag" but couldnt understand how to get out of them ,, do you have to pop it out sorta thing?..

cool as hell move tho dude,,uber smooth too Sphism/gigglesmiley

Alright first, Chut what do you have in mind for a name, I am completely open to suggestions.

Gizmo, different snags exit differently. Some of them pop right out and will go flying if not grabbed before they release and other ones I kind of pull apart and it still looks clean because only the handle is caught.

I would try starting with the first move in the video where I pull the poi down to demonstrate the idea of a snag and swing it in 3 circles. If you practice doing that you get used to the feeling of having the handle caught and can experiment with different ways to exit.

If your handles are bigger then mine they might not unsnag as easily. My handles slip and the poi go flying if I don't hit the snag right.

Pretty cool work Rovo!!!
Thanx so much!!!

I'm going to practiceing with this move!!!

Acciaio

p.s.
I will be able to post something here in about one or two week ...I'm soooooooo late Sphism/tonguesmiley but I'm a lot busy now Sphism/confusedsmiley

Got some stuff I do with Mr Chutney's Stands online now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9YkU7M0r3A

There's some neat multi-beat utl stuff on my youtube profile now too.

 this threads good. I like those foot wraps Sphism/smilesmiley It would be abit hard on fire unless you had weighted handles tho.

Some of those trick u guys are doing are KrAzY. Im wayyyy behind with trix ill grow into em one day, by then u guys will have evloved Sphism/gigglesmiley its all good tho Sphism/smilesmiley

Looks like Rovo is from moonshine country! could be the music tho Sphism/winksmiley mmm moonshine  wonder what that BURNS like!?!

Naw I ain't from moooonshine country, I justa been in them thur Adirondack Mountains fer 2 long.

I hope by burns you mean the feeling of it going down your throat and not actually burning it. You don't want to waste your moonshine. Sphism/winksmiley

Sphism/gigglesmiley

Sphism/gigglesmiley i ment... nvrm  Sphism/gigglesmiley

I find it bizare how different peoples styles and tricks are. I mean alot of moves that people like, i dont do, or do very little. I think this evens out. What i mean is i hardly even use alot of tricks that iv spent ages tuning.
Most of them get "shelved" like an old book. Its like i have a bag for books, and after reading them i replace them with new books that im reading. I still have the old stuff but there is just no room for it (your poi only burn so long) and i favour the new moves because its fresh.

Do you guys have that? I feel like you can only hold so many moves at once, if i learn new moves they start replacing or changing old moves. Even changing the whole style. :56 Hope this is on topic, other wise ill have to post a video clip Sphism/gigglesmiley

I totally agree taniwha. I watched an old video of mine yesterday and saw basic versions of some of my favorite moves now and was like "whoa I did that back then?"

I also agree that you can only have a certain set of moves at a time. There's things I'll neglect for awhile then remember how fun they were and start using them all the time again.

It seems to me I go through contact poi moves like water, while my "regular" poi moves seem to stick much longer.

Yup, I agree also and will comment more about it in another thread, one where the topic isn't Trick of the week' Sphism/winksmiley

Anyone fancy starting a thread? I'm at work and probably should do some work.

(I have just found some footage dating back to the same spin as the 'playing' vid I out out last year- Theres some lovely stall combinations in there which just might make it into another little vid ahead of my next proper release Sphism/smilesmiley

 sry dood. Il post a vid in here if it ever stops raining Sphism/sadsmiley

I do like those snags tho. Havnt used them in ages. I found them when my poi flew out of my hand and i used the chain to catch the other poi 8O you can get one of them propeller or hyperloop, but i only really used that trick for catching a fuck up Sphism/gigglesmiley

Oh no actually I MENT to do that Sphism/winksmiley yea Sphism/gigglesmiley

It's not just a trick...but I think can be useful also there...
Something like a tutorial of advanced hyperloops and sone whipcatches...
The video is cutted in an orrible way but I have no time to do a better work...sorry

Acciaio

nice videos guys!

i was practicing wibbles last night and i started doing this cross-arm wibble:

cross arm wibble

A little new combo developed yesterday...
half throttle directly to whip catch
from here two beat of what I call "One handed hyperloop" but something more like mine "flying nexus"

I hope you'll enjoy it!
http://www.italianpoi.eu/tricckino.wmv

Acciaio :X

Not a stall mmm... I think is a stand but chutney can correct me...
Is simply a head "contact"(without haveing a real grip with the poi) catch so the handle wrap the other wrist...after it going bheind automatically you catch this one with the spinned poi....
So difficoult to explain for me this in english...I hope have sense...I can retry Sphism/winksmiley

How are going your 2 poi wibble?
Can we exchange some video with tricks in this pattern?
I can do only a few but I wont to see something more Sphism/winksmiley

Thanx in advance gizmo!

Acciaio XD

ah im just getting my head around multiple swaps while twibbling,

from standard twibble, throw right hand under left, then after 2 or so beats throw the right hand one high in the air as you throw your left poi to your right hand under the other one, then catch it all and continue wibbling, its a bitch to get nice but its so adictive the same time,

watching matt swap poi during twibbling is well impressive as its so smooth Sphism/smilesmiley

okay so its not in a combo (yet) but my current goal is to achieve btb flow

not just being able to transition between moves but to do it so smooth that it becomes like flowing in front of the body...and to that end comes working on stupid otherwise pointless moves

HoP linky

Ok, i'm back in nz and have broadband, yay, i finally get to play in the gallery and watch videos.

I'm gonna go thru and stick all these videos in the gallery, in a new Trick of the Week album, will be nice to get it all in one place,

m

hmm cool.. hey matt how can i add some of my vids to my gallery? got a new one to share now too Sphism/smilesmiley

ah cool.. i`ll have to shrink my new vid a tad first then, Sphism/winksmiley
