The Spinning Music

-The Spinning Music-
Some thoughts going through my head. Whenever I'm spinning my music effects the style, rhythm, or general family I tend to do more. The point of this thread is for everyone to toss out and talk about the music they spin to for the other poiple, telling how it effects you and I think it will help expand each spinners horizons on poi as the mood is being changed to develop %100 their own style. I browsed around and couldn't find a thread but if I missed one feel free to delete this. Sphism/gigglesmiley

The music I spin to most often is electronica, favs being Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, Nick Warren, Digweed, and DJ Tiesto (lots more but that would bore you)It gets me more in a kick @ss mood to really push mysel as hard as I can go, thus resulting in many odd-colored bruises Sphism/gigglesmiley

For more casual spinning and really really good for practicing rhythm and learning new patterns, I like to listen to Charles Trenet, Delerium, Enya, any kind of slower drumming and tons more but those came to mind first. You should try some of these out. Charles Trenet always leaves me feeling happy and lightheaded so.. happy spinning all!

i listen to all sorts of music but the first time i spun to any was electronica as well... different types of music really help the mood like poikid said, ill spin to almost any music as long as it has a good beat... my preference is music without lyrics, in a way i find the abscence of the words are replaced by the energy of the poi, and i know it sounds kinda strange but me personally, i feel the divinity of the art of poi when its just me, the poi, and the sounds of the music... i see alot of things concerning divinity that are grouped in Threes(3) and for some reason its one of the more relaxing settings for me...

one voice, that of the music itself
one entity, the figure holding the poi
one purpose, endless movement that can only be expressed and described as true art and apreciated as one thing: Beauty

i know theres two poi but i dunno how to explain how they mix in, i just know that there is such a thing as a poi high and ive felt it while spinning to continuous music like trance Sphism/gigglesmiley my fav...

ive spun to drum & bass, techno, rave, house, industrial, hardcore, emo, metal, jazz, nature sounds, etc... they all have their special places, but i find myself most at one with the poi with trance...

some favs r :
DJ Tiesto - My Idol(same bday! Jan17!! Sphism/coolsmiley )
Ferry Corsten
Digweed
Sasha
Cosmic Gate
Hybrid
Robert Miles
DJ Micro
Mauro Piccotto

theres more but ill spare yall the read hehe

When I spin I prefer to hear musics with 'speedy' rythm. So electronica music is well.

I love to listen to metal-rock music like Linkin Park, Creed, Staind, 3 Doors Down.... when I spin, it's great. Sphism/gigglesmiley

Anything I like which ranges from really werid electronic music to classic rock. I hate pop music, and therefor spinning to it.

I love the summer and the sunshine, so for me there's nothing better for a good laugh than cranking up the Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, NOFX etc. and bringing out the flames!! But anything goes except r'n'b, mainstream garage etc., and conceptual/progressive jazz. So you can do a piss poor attempt at a chromatic scale really quickly... big deal!! Sphism/gigglesmiley

Anything 4/4 is best for me, my favourite music is techno but it's not really an issue. Spinning to really fast stuff like gabba/hardcore/drum and bass tends to make me spin slower, and spinning to more ambient stuff tends to make me spin in a lot floatier way Sphism/winksmiley

I need flags!!! Too much pretty music around (like LOTR soundtrack) to use ribbons or fire; they don't quite fit the feel.

DNB DNB DNB!! be my spinning chunes of choice.....however prolly not suprising since that be my other passion/obsession in life ..hehe :21

altho my flatty was bustin out sum pretty nice breaks the other day...and that wasn't too bad to spin to either

:37

I hear ya Faerie, I have those but I dont spin to 'em much cause yes, my reg poi and my streamers just dont fit...whenever you get some nice flags I'd love to know where, I'm looking for some myself :44

Hey inertia, do you know any good dnb dj's? I dont know enough of the genre to know which ones to look up, could use some references. Hm never spun to rock music....

M-P Kid

I want flag, I don't have them as I don't know of a pair that could do hyperloops and wraps.

The kind I'm wanting are some really big ones to mesmorize myself with Sphism/gigglesmiley Ha sometimes I do that with poi, start watching the balls next thing I black out. Too fun. And no, I dont black out cause I smacked myself

M-P Kid

I'm with inertia on this one. Anything fast an evil hits the spot
I find techno a little boring and stuff with lyrics a bit distracting...

I've heard some cool rap tracks, "lucky star" by Dizzee Rascal and Basement jacks sounds like it would be great to spin to, but I haven't had the chance to yet.

Never heard of those. Gotta link? Sphism/smilesmiley

M-P Kid

I spin to different then most people on most poi sites it seems. I really love jam bands and older rock. I listen to alot of techno but prefer jam techno (anyone ever heard of The New Deal or particle i think they are great to spin to). I also like Reaggae cause of the bouncy beat to alot of songs. Does anyone else listen to any of this while spinning???

Grateful Dead
Phish
The New Deal
Oysterhead
NIN
Pink Floyd :21
Particle
Primus
moe.
Rusted Root
Reggae

I think just because i love all this music i can get into it better and just let loose. Even though i can spin to just about anything with a beat.

Hehe sorry, I've only -heard- of Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead............ but I'll give it a try sometime. Most rock music brings me down after listening to it which is why I like listening to electronica, as it tends to allow YOU to set the mood....and if there has to be lyrics I lean more towards the kind in a dif language so you can make up your own story. Anyways. Thats pretty cool Rovo. Do you find you spin differantly when listening to each of those or no?

M-P Kid

This sin't rock most of this music is happy it doesn't have the sad darkness in it it has the happy light heartedness in it if that makes sense. Anyone who likes trance to spin try new deal and particle its a little different cause its a band playing trancy things

anything goes really but at the moment i'm a resident fire/ glo spinner for a techno/ breakbeat night called firefly so that's the stuff i'll practice to..,. Sphism/gigglesmiley

Pink Floyd is fun to spin too.
Lenine is this cool Brazillian music, really fun stuff, at least most of it is.

poikid.....good dnb djs?....well where to start!!!! Sphism/winksmiley

there are soooo many wikkid producers n djs out there of course...but i be quite a fan of the more liquid dnb styles...

Calibre is one of my fav ever producers, but there are sooooo many more out there....few of my other favs: mist:i:cal (or pretty much anything on the soul:r label), nutone, DJ Marky...hmm the list goes on.

:47 <---- much more betterer than me on the dfloor ..hehe

The Mad Capsule Markets. Although your arms fall off if you try to keep up for more than three minutes...! 8O

Sphism/gigglesmiley Hmmm I'll def try those out inertia Sphism/gigglesmiley

Theres this set that I love to death, I think it would classify as progressive house but I'm not very good at recognizing the beats just yet..work with me here lol. Either way its Paul Oakenfold live in Burmingham..I think thats how you spell that place....... anyways again its a live set, superb. Sorry peeps if I'm looping here, I mighta already said that but I dont remember Sphism/confusedsmiley

I also spin to the mad capsule markets. Sphism/smilesmiley

Its not depressing rock Rovo? I'll give it a try then Sphism/gigglesmiley

you may think me odd, but i like angry music... industrial and metal. i also rave to such things, which i often get strange looks for, but it works for me. rave/poi to thing like nine inch nails creates a really distinctive, edgy style. i like it. Sphism/tonguesmiley

Sorak i agree industrial and heavy metal are really good to spin to. My favorite NIN song to spin to is this closer trance remix with Static-X. The song is just awesome and has alot of variations in it making for an interesting spin.

Industrial metal... Sphism/gigglesmileySphism/gigglesmileySphism/gigglesmileySphism/gigglesmiley

Also, there's another physical activity (not poi) that works particularly well with music like Disturbed and Powerman 5000!!

For practicing plane-control , flow and timing , that slow middle-easternish drumming is really good. That vid Spinning in Paris 3+4 has that kind of music in the first half when I think the names are Emily and Danae are spinning.............I dont know the peeps but they look like they would be called that Sphism/gigglesmiley Neways my sis gave me this casette (damn plastic noise maker but hey it works) of bellydancing music that works well.

Rage agaist the machine makes my spinning realy flowy. Sphism/confusedsmiley

hip hop for the bounce,

funk for the feet,

country and western when im feeling weird

birdcall for practice

T

hey miss faerie...
if you're talkin about what i think you are, i strongly suggest Tool! trust me, it's awesome.... Sphism/winksmiley

has to be some hard house/hard trance for fire spinning, or some psytrance like skazi or logic bomb for me glowies or socks cuz it's less repetitive and more inventive and so the same with my spinning...anything goes really, just connect my comp to a stereo, hang the speakers out the window and spin to whatever comes on whic could be some 80's metal, aphex twin or some dj yoda!

Nobody told about percussions. Try this : Doudou Ndiaye Rose, Mamady Ke?. Your body will move alone !

There are so many good musics to spin, but the better ones are those who give vibrations to your body. When you feel like dancing, spinning is much easier !

Yeah, I've done that... In a tent on Dartmoor, beautiful moonlight, tea-lights all around us... It was sooooooooooooo amazing!!! One of the best ever.

haha... s'all good! Sphism/winksmiley

moving back in a poi based direction though, had an awesome spin to LTJ Bukem t'other day. liquid D&B is real nice to keep you moving + my brain ticking over without going into overdrive like can do with heavier dance stuff... don't tend to think about moves as much when dancing fast so slighty slower = more inventive!

also less frantic. i smashed my headphone with my aerotechs last night while spinning to a phat plump dj's set!

:44

[quote="duballstar"] liquid D&B is real nice to keep you moving

I prefer Nu-Metal like Limp Bizkit, Deftones and so on...
Rage against the machine and some peppers-songs r great 2... Sphism/gigglesmiley

Hey welcome Krickel Sphism/gigglesmiley
Yeeh my brother looves spinning to limp bizkit and rage against the machines, funny you would mention that, your now the only other person I've met that does that. Hehe right on Sphism/gigglesmiley Hope to know more about ya , see you around

Ahh my brother just bought this album (well it was on itunes so its mp3 album I guess) , its arabian/middle eastern/indian/I dont know what it's actually called but either way it makes you think of Middle Eastern stuff, its that kind of slower drumming, reeeally entrancing. I'll email him and get the name of it, seeing as I forgot

Well I figure I'm long overdue for a post here, so here it goes:

I tend to spin to electronic stuff. I suppose mostly trance and progressive stuff, techno and some futurepop and ebm. Adding psytance and DnB in there now. Sphism/gigglesmiley Should be exploring industrial at some point, but barely have any of that right now.

There's also some non-electronic stuff, and that ranges all over. Not going to list it all here. (Not now, anyways. Sphism/winksmiley )

Phew! I thought I was the only one who needed hip-hop music to spin to.

My current favorite song to spin to: Soul Flower by Pharcyde (it's like from 1992 or something.)

I have found a new favorite to spin to. Keller williams plays soem really funky acoustic stuff and i love spinning to it.

My recommendation for spinning has to be Dusted: When we were young. Its made by Rollo, one of the blokes out of Faithless and coincidentally Dido's brother- its got a great variation in rythms and mood, pefect for a lengthy spin- get a copy Sphism/smilesmiley

Chut

Hey all

OK really really good music to spin to.

Hoobastank, well some of it, Sister Hazel, Vertical Horizon, Lifehouse, Christophe Goze (goez??)

I think Chumbawamba (sp?) is really fun to spin too, plus nothing wants me want to get up and fight for something quite like their music does.

anyone else listened to (mu)-ziq - royal astronomy, might appeal to some other people for spinning or if not just for listening, amazing album

I really like reibal house and dnb to spin to. But, anything fast and funky's good

[quote="inertia"]DNB DNB DNB!! be my spinning chunes of choice.....however prolly not suprising since that be my other passion/obsession in life ..hehe :21

sorry tribal not reibal

Some good music that I've been spinning to recently
