Respect from Sista Firewire

Hi Matt or poipoipoi!
thanx for this site and all your work and energy you put into it! Big up for your decision to share all your skills(concerning poi).
I am Sista Firewire from Berlin, fell in Love with Poi some years ago,I love to dance with them, and I really love fire in all its magic forms and colours. Apart from playing and performing with fire, I am making Fingerpuppets http://www.fingerpeople.de and speciall clothes and hats.or I travel with my little caravan
I really like all the stuff you do in the vids, did you all work it out yaself? how long everyday are you playing?(if your not stuck infront of a compi)
but I cant REALLY work out quite what youre doing, too fast and I can hardly see the poi in the air.Or is it just me?But my computer is fine and I am not too stupid either..Maybee it would be possible to use black poi, or UV-glow poi for more contrast?just an idea Sphism/smilesmiley
is it possible to save them with"save target under.."?
it saves them as "html "and not as "swf "--?? Sphism/confusedsmiley otherwise i have to get them from my temp Dingsbums ,I know ...
I am starting a Poi-training in Berlin now, trying to get the spinners together abit, as they are not as connected as in your country... I hope its working out!
all Poi-people allways welcome!

I was taught a few basics first. The Under the Leg stuff was shown to me by a guy called Alex in San Francisco. Hyperllos I discovered ages ago but didn't think they were of any real use or be controlled well. Then I got back into them recently. Most other things I discovered myself. I've always been quite a loner on the poi circuit, that's why I have a fairly unique style. I discovered the 'Impossible Weaves' myself. I thought that they were possible and knew that if I could nail them then all my butterfly moves could be linked in to all my weave moves. I've never seen anyone else do the throws and catches like I do them. I did use to teach poi at a circus workshop in brighton. I got to see some amazing club jugglers. This reall yinspired me to start throwing my opi around. Then I realised that I could Isolate the throws, which keeps the poi Inside the circular plane that you normally spin in, it also means you can keep them in time.

Not a grat deal at the moment. I almost always have my poi on me, If I go out dancing I'll spin for maybe 8 hours at a time. At burningman 2003 I performed at 'The Burn'. That night I span for about 12 out of 14 hours Sphism/gigglesmiley I have always found there to be an optimum speed to spin at, where by you recieve more energy than you use, this means that you can spin indefinitely. Often I find if I stop spinning I get really saw muscles and just have to carry on.

Yep, this was the test video I did. I never really intended it to all go on teh web. I thought about changing the covers on my poi to a different colour, but the quality of the spinning would have been reduced, especially th ethrows and catches. I am able to alter the colours to make the poi stand out more, but for now I'm just concentrating on getting as much footage up on the net as possible. Also, I have uploaded only 70 of 201 clips, in no particular order. You should find all the answers you require in the other videos. I can inlcude movie frame controls, play, pause, 1/2 speed and so on. But again I just wanted to get stuff up quickly. Also I like for poiple to figure stuff out for themselves, otherwise I could end up giving away lots of poi secrets without poiple understanding what they are doing. I think this may do more harm than good. Nothing you learn in poi should be difficult. Every small step should be relatively simple to accomplish. If you find it hard to follow the hand movements of a 5 beat impossible weave then you are probably not quite ready to learn it.

Good suggestion though. I'll definitely do stuff like that for the final videos.

Temp Directory is where the files save to and you need to copy them from there. As long as they are in your temp directory they won't need to download again.

Yes,I can understand that.I just found some nice uv-material,not this kite stuff -more strong, like denim, and i made some nice, socklike, but nonstretchy,Poi out of them. They would be perfekt for the vids--you want them?
I am thinkiing `bout coming to London soon-(just an Dream jet)  Sphism/confusedsmiley:

Yes 1/2 speed would be perfect, I know how to do it with wav`s but couldnt find out a setting for the swf`s in shockplayer....
Anyway, you`re pefectly right, everybody has to work it out her/him self, you cant get it readymade with a bow on top. 8O
...maybee in150 years you can just buy an ENZYCLOPEDY of Poi dvdxxx and easy insert it in your brain, quickinstall and then:perfect soulfree poiplayer.... Sphism/sadsmiley
