Our best times

[begin explaining rant] I was just thinking today of some of my best spinning times ever, or even if its not spinning, just the best times I've experienced. And its something that I thought would be a cool thing to share with people, maybe its just me. So the purpose of this thread is just to talk about our best times (pardon the plug Sphism/winksmiley )[end explaining rantt]

I really only have one reeeally striking spin session.

It was just last night infact. I had my green glo poi (led lightup hackie sacks my sis Carolyn bought me...she just turned 18 8O) , the air was soo..sounds a wee bit funny but it was like , a mystical night. There wasnt a moon but the stars were super bright overhead, with a few wispy clouds to give it a slight eeriness. I was out in the woods alone , and whenever I would watch say windmills or something I would see the stars shining through the trees...a really great time. Plus a really on spin. I got better at a little undertheleg pattern as well as figured out a nice little UTL butterfly pattern as well so , overall, it was awesome Sphism/gigglesmileySphism/gigglesmileySphism/gigglesmiley

I gotta run, will post more on any great times whenever I have them. Peace out y'all

Wow, that sounds lush.

I remember once about 6 months after i started spinning we all had a lovely party out in a field by a forest. Set up an old army mess tent, lit 3 little fires in a triangle and all sat around. We had a stack load of those little camping candles so we spread them all out ~ like 100 or so ~ across the whole field. They twinkled like little stars. I was spinning fire (back in the days when i used to spin really fast) and my friend peter was drumming. I said to him, "lets play a little game, you drum and i'll keep time with you. Start off slow and i'll match you beat for beat. Then you speed up and we'll see who breaks the pattern first." So he started drumming and i danced along. He got faster and faster and i remember focusing on my hands and keeping dead on the beat. It sent me into a complete trance to a point where i no longer knew if i was spinning really really fast or really really slow. My Mind was completely detached and able to just observe what was going on and think about what it was observing. Since then I rarely feel the need to spin fast.

Wooah

My most memorable time spinning is when i was first startng out and i only knew a few things like the weave, corkscrew/windmill, butterfly and few variations on those. It was the Fourth of July which is a big to-do in the States and I was watching fireworks at my count'y airport. I was with some friends at the time we were having a party across from the fireworks since one of my friends father owns a bunch of land right there. When it got dark I took out some shoe string and a pair of glowsticks and started spinning. We were near the road and after a couple of minutes people started comin over and watching. It was a real rush having all these people watching and wanting to know what i was doing. I was spinning with really long strings so you could see me from pretty faraway. I had alot of fun that night and kept spinning till well after midnight. The fact that it was such a nice day and a cloudless night made it perfect. After that i really started spinning all the time and really got serious about learning new stuff and gettin to be the best i could be.
I love poi :42

Ah this takes me back, infact to when I decided to learn poi!

Twas a long long time ago, when men were men, women were women and it was fields as far as the eye could see. Yes that's right, all the way back to Glastonbury 2003! Sphism/gigglesmiley

We had just spent an amazing Wednesday evening getting mashed and playing silly buggers when just as dawn was about to break a guy lit up a pair of wire wool poi and span a massive butterfly and it looked just like dawn coming up. It was and still is the biggest coverage of sparks I've ever seen from sparkly poi and we were totally amazed. We'd seen all the other spinners but nothin like this. Just afterwards (like within 5 minutes) dawn rose and we could here someone singing Morning Prayer (is it hebrew or seek or hindi or something?) and the perfect soundwaves just floated over the tree tops and into the stone cirlce. Infact it was probably one of the best times of my life for pure happiness. The air, the sounds, the silence, the company, yeah the drugs too but meh, the experience was unmatchable. The next day we bought some poi for £12 (I feel so ripped off now) and begand to spin. Never looked back and never put them down since.

Oooh I can feel all the hairs on the back of my neck standing up just thinkin about it :37

Just about any outdoor party I've been to - in the morning under the trees on a gorgeously sunny day, still tripping my tits off and listening to the music washing over me from the sound system and just spending ages spinning.

Roll on summer!

One of my best days ever was when I was 17 and on holiday in Newquay with 5 friends including my then long term girlfriend of a couple of years. We got up late, piled into the cars and hit the beach where we lapped up gentle warm sunshine almost completely on our own... campfire barbeque, frisbee for hours... It probably sounds like any beach holiday to many, but it was just the perfect combination of people place; ahh nostalgia.

Regarding spinning; I finally knew I'd got 'the bug' shortly after I was mad-posting about all the things I had learnt with my socks- I hacked 9 inches of chain off my glow poi, hooked up the ipod and spun for about 1 1/2 hours solid, oblivious to anything and anyone... THAT is what spinning is all about to me, and I've only just reached a level where I can 'lose' myself. The best is yet to come methinks Sphism/gigglesmiley

Mmm...great tales of great spinning...

Probly my fav spinning memory is from this past summer. I was at a little party in a little backyard in Japan. It was a holiday, I think. So we (myself, fellow exchange students, and our Japanese hosts) watched fireworks and then I spun for them a bit. ...Actually I started spinning before the fireworks were completely over (they have some really beautiful fireworks over there).

It was a good spin, and a really great time. Just topped off a great evening. And the Japanese loved it, too. (Even the neighbors stopped watching the fireworks to see) I don't think it's something they really see over there.

Hm.... The phrase "tantric" springs to mind. Sphism/winksmiley Don't think I've had any really mind-blowing poi experiences yet; mainly because I always feel a bit inferior!! But one of the best nights I've had was when I went with my mates from work to see [spunge], then we went back and lept into the pool fully clothed and hyperactive, and doing stupid stuff like surfing on a kayak. And then into the caravan, where the beer's always a-flowin' and the weed's always a-blowin'! Sphism/gigglesmiley

Wow - beautiful thread ....

I definitely know my all time favorite spinning moment. Burning Man 2003 - Sunday night (the day after the man burns, they burn a temple.) Well, most fire spinners get very excited about Saturday night, and want to spin around the base of the man ... I decided to skip that since it was my first year spinning fire on the playa. But Sunday night, I went out early with my friend, just to get a good spot to watch the temple burn. While waiting, I started spinning alone - just for me & Steve. Slowly some people came up. Then another girl who said "I'm a newbie, do you mind if I spin with you? And I was like sure - cuz I'm new myself. Then another newbie girl with a staff joins us. Then a drummer. Then a few more drummers. Then some of the most amazing fire spinners I've ever seen in my life ... and THEY'RE asking ME for permission to spin with ME in this circle .... it was amazing - I just felt so accepted for who I was. It was amazing. And unlike any experience I've ever had spinning in NYC, that's for sure.

Just a few days ago I had one of my best spinning moments till now.
My fraternity had a special party going on for 52 hours, since it exists for 52 years by now.

And I had the strange thought of running a 52 hour chill-out area in one of the rooms of the building. It was the best chill-out I've ever organised. Fresh fruits and fresh chai and loads of matrasses for everybody to take some rest.
To my suprise I kept it running for the whole duration which was never my intention, but it so happened to be Sphism/smilesmiley. Taking short naps to regain my strength while everybody was gone or asleep I somehow managed Sphism/winksmiley

During the whole time I practiced a bit with my new sock-poi's when there was enough room.
But in the final hour when I was already sort of awake for over 50 hours I popped in the second album of the Afro Celt soundsystem and began spinning like mad with my enhanched sock-poi+glowstick.
It was extremely heavy, but strangely enough I just went on and on for the better of the whole CD. And the whole spinning became like a dance, with my eyes closed I lost all sense of where I was and just focussed on the music and continued spinning and all kinds of things just worked out right. It really was a magic moment where I lost myself in my poi's for a while and the rest just didn't really matter :21
Just when I stopped and fully opened my eyes again I realized that everybody in the room was staring at me in amazement Sphism/gigglesmiley

I'm still wondering where all that energy came from that kept me going....

So what do you do at 2 AM?
Go out and spin, that's what I did anyway. Sphism/gigglesmiley
Last night, around two in the morning I wasn't sleepy so I decided that I'd go out and spin. So I did, and it was nice and cool, and everything looked really cool, since we had a full moon or almost one, and it was really low, and well my backyard has the ocean on two sides. So that was great, and I managed some 6 beat ( I think) parallel weaves, one very sloppy BTB tap back, which was the second that day, and lots of cool flower stuff. So yeah that was great.
