Introducing: me

Um, don't really know where to start. I guess I should say that I've been to HoP - but feel a little awkward over there. I've been playing with poi for about two years now - started doing fire last summer - and in the past few months have gotten really stoked to start learning more technical stuff. So, here I am.

I'm a NYer, attendee of Burning Man, bored at office job, probably older than most of you ....

So, now all I have to do is figure out how to view the tutorials ... I think my computer blocks that stuff from me, since I'm at work. Sphism/sadsmiley

Happy Spinning.

Hello there saucy Sphism/gigglesmiley I know man, I felt pretty fricked over in HoP, though dont get me wrong it is a lovely resource but , IMO nothing like Spherculism Sphism/gigglesmiley But then I may be biased Sphism/winksmiley
Ah yes, the techies seem to dwell here Sphism/gigglesmiley
Burning man? Ah way cool, I'm dieing to go to one of those. Are they as awesome as they sound??
Heh, and just how old are you saucy? Orbit and a few other spherculoids have said that, and just as we did them, we shall not stop hounding till we know Sphism/gigglesmileySphism/winksmiley
Well anyways, welcome to Spherculism, I know you're gonna have a blast here. I'm Catherine btw, better known as poikid. See ya round, hopefully aton! Keep on spinning

-Poikid-

Hiya, Welcome to the site.
What creeped you out over at HoP?

Which one? Sphism/confusedsmiley

heyz saucy :57

i too felt bit overwhelmed by HOP...def still a wikkid site...but jus seems to be a bit of a warmer community type feel round dese here parts Sphism/smilesmiley

so wot kinda office job is it that keeps u so uninterested?...tis a shame to be unhappy in your profession...although at least having lufly sphercularness (well spinning anyway) to look forward to at the end of a long day must help Sphism/smilesmiley

anyways...hiyya and welcome Sphism/gigglesmiley

definitely sympathise with the HoP feeling... felt like a stupid newbie, here I just feel like a newbie! Sphism/gigglesmiley
Welcome!

Hello there and welcome

I enjoy HoP, but then again I've been on there longer and know more people in real life I guess. And I only really spend time in the poi section which helps... too many hippies elsewhere Sphism/gigglesmiley

Got something against hippies? Be careful. I'll sik my incense on you  Sphism/gigglesmiley

yeah man, power to the people...

Hippies smell Sphism/winksmiley

Sphism/gigglesmiley

Wow - thanks for the warm welcome.

Yeah - the HoP thing is just a little too intimidating - all these threads about who's slept in whose bed, who's going to whose house this weekend.

I admit that it's jealousy. I wish I had more poi peeps around me.

Anyway - thanks for welcoming me here. I'm gonna jump right on and try to learn some new things from y'all.

Hmmm....I believe someone asked me about Burning Man - and YES, it is as awesome as you hear. Or at least it was for me ... everyone's experience is different. I was amazed by the sheer human effort involved in putting together a temporary city - and everyone does it on a volunteer basis - the whole "participant" thing. I don't want to go on too much - and start sounding like a Burning Man cult member (some people take BM way too seriously.)

Hmm ... I suppose there are some other questions that I've forgotten to answer ...... lemme go back and look.

Not all hippies smell some just look like they probably smell. Sphism/tonguesmiley

What just a second here ... I am NOT a hippy ... are you people trying to tell me I'm a dirty hippy girl?

Not that there's anything wrong with that ....

But, in fact, I'm not. I generally wear shoes and avoid patchouli oil.

hugs and all that,
Sauce

Hey, if Vyvien, Rick and Mike say it, it must be true!!

Hehe goodness no Saucy, spiralx is convinced that HoP has alot of hippies..though I think that if there were more on HoP it would've been better Sphism/gigglesmiley

:7 poikid

I'm beginning to think you guys are all too good for me here .... I'm still struggling with a four beat TTN .... haven't even thought about releases or hyperloops or any of that yet .... I don't even really know how to follow the talk of it .... who's gonna give me some tips about what to start playing with?

Don't feel intimidated Saucy- When I started out on here I could do three bt forward and reverse, btb reverse, a few butterfly bits'n'pieces and some wraps. nowt to write home about really (though I enjoyed it.)

However, a switch to socks (inspired by this place) and a few 'Poi Epiphanies' has now got me doing 5 bts, 1 hyperloop and a constant opportunity for improvement, inspiration and support.

I've only been a member for 2 or so months and I've learnt more in that short period than the last couple of years idly spinning and attempting to learn.

Stick with it, we're all in this one together Sphism/smilesmiley

Chut (who can't do the 4 bt TTN either- YET! Sphism/winksmiley)

I'm all about my sock poi. They are the greatest toys ever. In fact, when I leave work today, I'm going to the park to play with them with my friend. There's actually a fire gathering tonight, but I'd RATHER play with my buddy. That's how I know I'm a poi nerd .....

I've got the right hand/left side of the four beat TTN, but my stupid left hand keeps messing up. It's my goal for tonight to beat it!

Happy spinning!

:57

Saucy

Definitally dont feel intimidated in any way. I myself am far below most members here, infact your ahead of me in the ttns, I can only occasionally pull off a 3bt ttn Sphism/gigglesmiley

:57

Hooray for all of you ... I love that I can come here and be welcomed - and tell someone that I solidly mastered the 4 beat TTN ... and I feel like a rock star ... and you actually know what the h--- I'm talking about.

Today is a beatuiful day, I've got the day off from work, I just took my dog to the park for over two hours, and I'm gonna spin my new glowly lightsticks at a party tonight. Could my life be any better????

Hugs and love and everything to everyone who's come in here to say "hi"!

-Sauce

Howdoo

Hehe life seems to be quite good for ya, eat it up Sphism/gigglesmiley Wish I could see you spinning tonight, you're gonna give quite a good performance

-Poikid-

Fantastic weekend! Spun more poi than I have in a long time ... no fire tho Sphism/sadsmiley

But now it's raining - I've got to find room in my tiny little apartment to practice tonight - I think there's finally going to be a NYC fire meet-up tomorrow.

later all

:57

-Sauce

Woo hoo Sphism/gigglesmiley

Have fuun man, spin some for Spherculism!

Bumpity-bump.

I'm back. I've been away from here for a little while ... busy actually spinning poi, rather than just dreaming about it.

So, I'm just saying hi to my peeps, yo.

-Sauce

HeySphism/gigglesmiley

Welcome back!

Okay, sorry I'm waay late on reading this thread... but had to try to figure out how old Saucy is. There must be Somebody older than me on Spherc!

Why is it the only people who I've heard complain about hippies are people who might otherwise be thought of as hippies themselves?!?

And okay, I hang out here with a lot of people who take Burning Man VERY seriously... and I probably do take it more seriously than most. But I think everyone knows that it's a different experience for different people, and try to keep it all in perspective. At least I haven't spent ridiculous amounts of money on art cars and camp projects yet!

Orbit

Orbit -

OK - fair's fair - first, how old are you?

-Saucy

Hey cutie... just blessing your thread with my presence.

And you're not even as old as ME so none of y'all should be whining... cuz I'm an old man and yet still maintain enough pimp to be ridiculous.

NYC - thanks!! It's so nice to see you around here. Haven't I been telling you this is the best website on the planet?? But you had to go and actually MEET MATT, didn't you??

Clearly, the depressed mood of my intro has obviously abated somewhat in the past few months. In fact, I'm totally happy in New York again. So I guess I should go up there and edit. **edit: done**

And about not yet being as old as you yet ..... I will be in NINE DAYS!!!!

However, what I'd REALLY like for my birthday is for everyone to look the other away and pretend not to notice when I start lying about my age. Cool?

Back to the real world ....... thanks for stopping by and saying hi and bumping my intro back up to the top. Sphism/winksmiley

OK - so who DOESN'T know NYC??

I heard there's a man in Nepal that hasn't met him yet...

Hey again saucy girl!

 . Just felt like hugging ya!

-Poikid-

Ooh ooh me! I haven't met NYC yet! You know I'm on a mission to meet every poi spinner, too... dang. Come to California!

:57 Poi Kid!!!!

Tell me - how are those wicks, girl?????

Orbit: well, obviously, if you want to meet NYC you have to COME TO NYC. Sphism/smilesmiley

I'm conspiring to have all good American poi spinners move to the Bay Area. Don't tell anyone about the secret mind-control machine I'm building in my friend's back yard -- everyone just thinks it's some sort of Burning Man project. ;-)

Hiya Saucy,

Thought i'd pop in and say hello....

:57

From prior reading i have some comments.... Sphism/smilesmiley

I thought you were around the same age as me. And i consider myself young spritley and full of life!!! Sphism/smilesmiley

You are surley not a dirty hippy, unless you just got cleaned up coz you knew you had a guest that night in the park ??

NYC, that name rings a bell.... sure i met him somewhere myself Sphism/smilesmiley

all the very best of everything

a

Ah, yes, young Aidan - we are BOTH young and sprightly. Since the anniversary of my birth last Saturday, I've vowed to stop being touchy about the subject - I will just, forever more, answer the question with an assured "twenty six" whenever anyone inquires.

Wait... 26... you are old....

hee hee

*runs away*

keep running you cheeky lil ...................

Sphism/gigglesmiley

Hey saucy, I've kept well away from HOP as well, only made a few posts as they make me feel pretty stupid for only knowing a few moves, you seem to get loads more encouragement here though which is kinda nice.

:57 Magic Monkey!

Spherculism is actually responsible for renewing my enthusiasm for poi. I hope you continue to find the people here as wonderful and helpful as I do.

here i go ... talking to myself again!

But I just wanted to say that I'm back after a long absence, and so happy to see spherculism up and running once again.

Since I've been here last, I've figured out how to use a video camera, and gotten ridiculously addicted to the hula hoop.

So - look forward to poi vids and hoop vids soon!

exes and ohs to all you lovely spherculists.

Can't wait. Sphism/gigglesmiley
I think I have a distinct lack of imagination when it comes to hoop, I just cant think of anything to do with them Sphism/confusedsmiley Please enlighten me.

Good to have you back :57
