Heello! Thought I should say it at last, been sneaking around on the edges for a while, watching other people come up with fantastic twirly ideas and then running away to try them myself.
I'm Zoe, been spinning poi for a year or so, started in Edinburgh but I'm in NZ at the moment on a uni exchange. It's a lovely country. I made some flags the other day, they're pretty, but otherwise it's mainly sock poi, occasional fire and some homemade juggling balls.

Hello there zoe!
Great to see you here at long last. Indeed many poiple here have splendid ideas, and its wonderful that they immediately come to share it
Can't wait for your own ideas to emmerge
Ooh nz? How cool, I'm dieing to go there myself. Is it as nice as it seems?
Ooph if you have the time and patience, would you be willing to send me something on how to make those flags? I still haven't found much information on them, would be nice to know first hand from someone
Well I must get going, I'm catherine by the way, hope to see you around aton

Heloo poikid. Lol, reading your posts on here and pip and stuff I always assumed you were a guy  Heh, it'd be great to meet everyone and see how much peoples' impressions of each other are completely wrong. Or right.
Flags, flags. I read a whole bunch of posts on HOP and stuff and then went down to the shops.. unfortunately it was a sunday so I spent most of the day trekking round Auckland and getting more and more annoyed.. but eventually I got some grey chiffony stuff, 2 rectangles about, um, 90cm by 50cm. Very roughly. I wanted silk but twas too expensive, but the advantage of having synthetic stuff was that I could use a lighter to just melt the edges a bit instead of hemming them, I hate sewing
Made a hem about 2 thirds of the way along the long edge and half way down the short edge and filled them with, um popcorn kernels. I couldn't think of anything else & it was the cheapest thing I could find, ok? Hee hee. And that's it. I'm crap at sewing so they're quite simple and have no handle either as yet, I can't decide whether I want one really.. flaggers seem to object to handles with swivels and say that that just turns them into poi.. and poiple say 'woohoo, more poi!'. I dunno. They work pretty well as it is, I could send a pic if you like. They open out really well, it's like magic
As for NZ, it's.. it's breathtaking.

anyways...welcome to the site and to nz!....u sooo gotta come check out the south island sometime if you get a chance...its is lufly!

I use my flags as poi, they have scrummy suedy handles and ickle swivels; I've tried holding them without the swivel, but I find it really hard. So I'm going for the flag-poi thing. Although I have played with flags on sticks, they're really different but still fun.

Hello. I'm John. Have you posted in my Livejournal before? My account being Ker_plunkle.

OOooooooh...
Yay for poi communities, the same people keep on popping up everywhere.
Achlu.. sweeeeet, I so didn't realise that was you. Hello
Inertia - :32 I *love* the south island so very very much and when I say NZ's breathtaking and such I'm definitely not talking about auckland. Spent the summer living down in QT and met a few spinners. One was from dunedin, one was mr bluecat, randomly. Not from dunedin.. I'd love to go back down, I miss it loads but unfortunately many scary neuroscience lectures call up here and I have to go back to UK in JUly  As for the weather... meh, winter. It's raining lots here today, though I've still not had to wear a coat this year, lol.
