ever wonder why...
good point. That seems quite silly now. What should we do about this?

Just one of those quirks that pop up in language, I'd say. But I don't really think we should 'do' anything about it. People are comfortable with terms as they are, etc.
Or we could come up with an entirely new set of names/notation/whatever.
As for why, somebody started it and it stuck. I dunno if there was a reason behind the naming or if it people thought it sounded cool or what.

Weave - Butterfly
Windmill - Alternature butterfly
Chasing the sun - OTH butterfly
Corkscrew - Mexican wave

there is also backwards buttefly (upwards spin behind back)
backwards windmil, lead from ^^^
backwards and normal butterfly swap, where they both go behind your head in one circulation or if your doing backwards butterfly the both come infront of your head.

umm.. would it be stating the obvious that all of these moves are described by how they look (except weave). So Corkscrew, windmill and butterfly. All versions of butterfly LOOK like a butterfly (drawn by a really little kid... or anyone as artistically untalented as me
) when seen by anyone level with the performer, with very few charateristic marks between them except for mentioning the performers body positions, hence overhead, bth, etc... As for weave... it's what it feels like...isn't it?

I agree, I think it definitally came from what it looked like and what a few like weave felt like, but that doesnt mean that it's correct.
I'm for coming up with better names or leaving them as is, doesn't really effect me either way, so whoever has a pet pieve about such things, you can decide
