Waking life

anyone else out there seen this film?!?!

...i just watched in on dvd and thought it was amazing!...its an animated type film and the animation is crazy..completely diff than i've ever seen before! (althouh just about to induce motion sickness at times if you are taht way inclined..hehe)..

and the actual film content....a whole lotta people discussing (well only really touching on, but still) different kinda philosophical ideas on dreaming and being awake....cool!

one piece really got me thinking....(in terms of why may humans have not progressed evolutionary-wise to their full potential) "which is the more universal human characteristic - fear of lazyness?" Sphism/confusedsmiley: :idea: :24

waking life is the best film ever....

I show it in the intro to philsophy class...it hits on most of the major topics and introduces philosphy in a BADASS way..

some people can't stand the animation though.. the fact that they colored over film was AWESOME in my opinion.. Watch it with the minds eye and everything just makes since.. Plus the animation allow for the suttlebackground effects while they are talking..

ahh..

if you own one dvd ever.. that's the one to get.. they even do a subtitled commentary that points refernce to most of the things discussed..

Yeah it's definatly a great movie,
Reminds me I haven't seen it for a long long while, gonna pop it in pretty soon.

The discussions to me became a bit overwelming, you are constantly bombarded with the strangest philosophical Ideas and hear so many great thoughts that in the end I had something like. Ok I heard just a bit too much and can't really figure it out anymore.

And The animation is just wonderfull Sphism/smilesmiley
With all the little things happening in the background while people are discussing things.

not all the information is necessarily the case, but it does give insight into most of the major philosophical debates.. Everyone that I've shown it to has asked to replay it again.. LMAO..

I can practically quote the thing yet I practically pick up on something everytime I see it.. if you ahve time to check out the referenced material you should.. it puts it better into context, though I think they edited it beautifully..

admittedly i really don't know very much about philosophy at all (not that i'm not interested in it...just not my area of specialisation i guess)....

however although i am quite an uninformed consumer (so to speak) i still realise that the film really only scratched the surface of a number of different theoretical debates and thus may not be quite enough for you true philosophers out there..

but considering it was probably meant more as an introduction for more uniformed people such as myself...i think it did a great job .... it def made me think! Sphism/gigglesmiley

don't get me worng.., it does an infintily better job for introduction to philosophy then the intro to philosophy books out there.. LOL

I show it at the beginning of class to introduce everyone to it.. get them set, eager to learn.. they tend to refer back to it with concepts that are covered in the text.. and at the end of the semester I show it a second time.. so that they can see what they've learned.. being able to form opinions and understand more...

Hoorah! Waking Life was sat waiting for me when I returned home from my exam last night- watched it this morning and am really impressd Sphism/smilesmiley

The animation is brilliant and the subject matter is just mind-blowing... even as a philosophy student I was getting excited and intrigued by the discussion and questions, which is always nice Sphism/smilesmiley
