freestanding holes in a fluid
the University of texas did this experiment where they vibrated water with cornstarch, and managed to make free standing holes in the fluid substance...
at one point there were two holes and they merged into one and then repelled back into two..
at another point the holes didn't fully penetrate the liquid instead it made the liquid rise back up and topple over and each of these 'fingers' would make a new finger when it fell, until the whole liquid was covered in fingerlike liquid protrusions (sp?)...
anyway.. I have a vid of it.. if you hit me up on messenger.. preferably Aim, or msn, but I'll add yahoo if you want.. or you can go to the following web addie

VERY VERY Much cool to watch..

Weird... I'm thinking it's something to do with superposition and harmonics?

Very strange!

Its rather unnerving, especially that last bit with the 'fingers'- physics is a wonderful thing

Wow, that's a trip. I always thought playing with cornstartch was cool but that blew my mind, if only someone could come up with a use for it, perhaps an enormous ride.

Hm interesting.
Now , this is prolly waay off , seeing as I'm no physisist , but bear with me here
Ok, just thinking, corn starch, water and vibrations. At the beginning it formed really intricate patterns that repeated themselves. Could this perhaps have some connection with Crop Circles??
Because maybe they are on just the right spot and with the vibrations, it just flattens them...
Again, I know nothing about physics, but just a thought
Is this something?

I love the idea, but I'm guessing is more to do with fluid dynamics and viscousity (sp?).
(Excuse Chut, he was drunk, but he's now edited the post sober

Think of the cool stuff that could be done with this like ah.. um.. special effects?

Not quite all of them spiral
I like that idea a lot poikid, doesn't sound unfeasable.
Crazy stuff.

Thx a lot - really NICE. . .
Two things:
1.) Where to get it for the next party - much better than lava lamps. Can you imagine this thing a lil bit larger in the middle of a chill out area - CLUBBING !!!!!!
2.) Would a pool be possible ?
you got more of those ??

As for the crop circle thing, my mom was the one who originally suggested it. Thought it was interesting. I think it holds up better than aliens
