Hello ![]()
T'name's Stefan signin in from Sweden (Falun).
About me:
Well, born snowboarder who loves to live and learn... says alot does it, huh..
Student here in sweden right now but takin a year of to go down to Australia (Melbourne that is)
Besides studies I do a lot of snowboarding, cliffjumping, movies, music.. you name it - also work as a bartender!!
Age 21, but my english still suck I know.... it won't after Australia though ![]()
About my poi (now his is the interesting bit):
Started of with my homemade pois about two months ago. Made a couple of standard tennisball-with-string-and-tail type (flagpoi? tailpoi?) trashed a pair of pants (for the tail fabric) and bought some keyrings along with the tennisballs, done!! I've also made my own FirePois using kevlar, alu-pipe, chain and keyrings!!
Right now I'm stuck not really gettin my 5bt-btb-weave (reverse?) workin... keep hitting my pants with the poi.. frustrating - so have temp. abandoned it, trying instead to make my 2xttn go split-time and then end up in an impossible-weave - the problem here seems to be those tails hitting one another making the thing instable!!
Btw: I s*** at spinns behind my head 'cos the strings tangle in my dreads ![]()
Just wanted to say thanks for a great site - really wouldn't have figured out all those weaves, beats, (f*** ups) on my own.. ![]()
Btw: How big wicks do you people use for firepoi? Mine are about 20" of 2.5" wide kevlar!

Hi Stefan and welcome to the show.
Sounds like you're learn poi pretty quick.
The poi you are talking about are tail poi. Flag poi are usually big squares or triangles which are as wide as the poi string is long.
Ditch the tails, use socks, it's a london thing but that's my only advice. Doing butterflies with tails is such a pain. Of course you can just tie your tails up to make them shorter, or cut them down.
Hope you enjoy your stay, if i'm ever in sweden i'll pop round.

Hey theres Stefen, welcome!
Mm snowboarder eh? Fantastic. I love it though I've only had the opportunity of one whole season two years ago up in Brian Head Ut. Then went one time in lake tahoe a couple months ago. Money is a bit too tight to board this winter
How's the mountains over there in Sweden??
Hehe socks are alooot easier to learn with than tailed, though imo each have their own time and purpose. A couple of spinners here have had serious poi epiphanies once they got socks, myself included. Started learning bfly hyperloops , utl 'loops, crazy tapbacks, utl shtuff is a breeze with 'em...a must get. You'll not regret them I swear it
Cheers to learning on the tail poi! Shows you've got a good feel for the strings already.
Mm 5bt reverse btb wv.... man I cant even get a 4bt rvs infront wv
Well done!
No worries you'll get a split time ttn in good time, just keep spinning! Catch ya later, hope to see you around aton

Hiya. Welcome to the site.
Those sound like some big wicks, 20 inches?
I agree with Poikid and Matt, sock poi are great.
And snow boarding is really cool.

Hello
Tail poi are only more like fire poi if you take the tails off. I learned with tails for 6 months before I got socks, then as poikid said I had an epiphany! they're the best for learning new tricks and nailing those really hard moves and practice in general!
Do you practice with your fire poi unlit? If not give it a go, it'll give you chance to test the strength of your chains without the chance of spreading fire!
Have fun, I'm so jealous you live somewhere snowy. I lurve the snow almost as much as the sun!!
L8rs!

Wow 10 years?? Niicee. You must be pretty dang good now
What's the kinda stuff you like doing more, the parks, those big arse mountains that I see in the magazines, speed boarder what?? Or all  I live like 45 mins away from the resort here but like I said , dont have the money. Which is poop. Don't have a ride either hehe
I've never spun fire poi so I dont really know. I would think just practicing with unlit ones.
Custom_bug- I hear ya man, the snow is awesome. Spinning in it is a blast too. Seems to me like it'd be way cool to spin fire while it's snowing but dont know if it'd work or not
'Twould be a bit cold tho... but all part of the fun.

'Ey
Hehe nothing like a completely packed season.
Oh concerning the sock poi, just get some knee or over the knee high socks and put like, a tennis ball, a dog toy or any object really into it. I got over the knee socks, tied a big knot at the end for a handle tho chut suggests tieing one above the poi head too, haven't tried that meself just yet. Have fun!
I'll see ya later man

ok, today is a bad day
my spinning is going really crappy and I seemto have unlearned some things I'm supposed to nail and no new things wan't to stick... and ye it's raining to...
Think I'll put my socks away for today n just clean my room or something equally booring!!
Just needed to ventilate  maybe you could add a forum for posts like this one... "ventilation of boored, troubled or confused minds"
...I long the upcoming trip to Australia, and I miss my friends who have left town for the summer and I won't be seing them for at least a year or so (I'll be leaving to soon enough)

Sorry to hear that
Yeh , I know how those days are...
A year?
But hey... this year you can quadruple-plus your poi skills and just blow 'em away when you see them
Never hesitate to vent out a bit here man.
As for a forum for it, hehe , I'd say thats Matt's call.
Well, hope your spirits get a nice boost soon. Keep on spinning
