Poidia.

All over the 'Encyclopoidia Omnimodus' it's mentioned that, whenever you decide how something will be defined, it's to be included in the Poidia... but what/where is the Poidia? Is it a glossary soon to be released? ... or is 'Encyclopoidia Omnimodus' in fact the Poidia itself?

In the modules menu thingy to the side there use to be a link to it, I think It may have been taken down until there's something ready. I think there was something about security issues too, I'm not really sure but it comes to mind.

encyclopoidia is one of the forum sections... within you'll find threads on all the terms you are likely to encounter when reading about poi.. timing.. beats.. patterns.. planes.. cenbter of spin.. and so forth..

things are discussed at length in the poidia thread on that topic.. when final conclusions are made and agreed upon the agreed definition is moved to the first post (via editing) and eventually links to tutorials will be added... and finally the title we be changed from define to defined...

that way the original post will contain the definition and linsk.. and the rest will be subjective viewpoints and critiques of that topic..

actual moves like say 3 bt butterfly are defined in the forums under the appropriate section, whereas beat and butterfly are covered in poidia..

I would assume so

Or perhaps it got knocked when changing servers..always a thought.

So it IS the 'Encyclopoidia Omnimodus' that is the Poidia itself, thanx, I saw now that those terms thats seem to be agreed on are painted Red (first posts) Sphism/smilesmiley

I thought that eventually the poidia would be a hing of it's own separate from the forums with crosslinking etc between lots of pages? ie from weave to all the variations of it including windmills etc? Not sure where it was left so anything to say Matt?

We're still deciding on what form it'll take Sphism/smilesmiley

How about placing a sticky up front in the 'Encyclopoidia Omnimodus' explaining wat has been said in this thread: What the Poidia is, what it will be, how its to be used and what one can do to contribute!! Sphism/confusedsmiley:

..just a thought  // Allian

Okay. Origianally i figured we would hammer out the definitions in the forums and then put everything into a Wiki or similar e-encyclopedia.

Then everything can be interlinked but most importantly when writing an explanation every time you write weave it in the forum it would be linked directly to the poidia so that you never again have to expain every little thing. This should speed things up a lot.

Then the encyclopoidia omnimodus forum kinda became the whole thing and there was less need to make a separate poidia (which is just a short version of 'encyclopoidia omnimodus' because we got bored of typing that every time)

Then no one could decide on final versions of definitions and everyone got a bit bored Sphism/gigglesmiley

So, the poidia is still a 'work in progress'.

I'd like to see the final definitions entered into a php module (like everything else on this site) with some way of text linking directly to them without having to link them manually.

¦m¦

word... I didn't know the extra module would help hypertext the terms and such.. that's frickin badass..

Well, it's had it's ups and downs. The poidia has been slow for a while. I know I'm still interested in it, I just haven't been posting as much. Either from being busy, or not really knowing much about particular terms, or something...

I'm also still unclear on how much info we're putting in the poidia and how we're organizing it. I really like the idea of having it as a separate section with a page listing everything in sections/families/whatever and also having things linked together in the definitions themselves. Which gets more and more complicated as we add more information.

And having terms hypertexted in the forums... :30
So awesome.

Ummm... having just looked at a few of the more argued over (and simpler) terms it seems that a lot of the arguments are in order to just describe the simplest form of a move (windmill, weave, wrap) rather than incorporate all of the moves of a family and was wondering if after each term has been defined and agreed on then the topic should be carried on by people wishing to submit tips for beginners with the tips being agreed and added underneath the poidia? Think this'll save a lot of time on the definitions themselves and also enable the newer users to possibly add and contribute from their experiences bringing us all closer as one big happy poi family...

For example in corkscrew you could say same hand motions as windmill but flat in front of you (or words to that effect)

Also maybe have a modifiers list after some terms such as wrap to show how other types of wraps work and maybe a common definition for terms like weave which crop up all over poi terminology without necessarily referring to what everyone regards as THE weave! Have tried resubmitting some of the terms using this as guidance

also to big up my own idea, making the original definitions as broad and simple as possible will greatly ease foreign use(/translation??) of the poidia as well as allow for further expansion as new forms of poi are discovered, via additions to the modifiers list...actually modifier's the wrong word... um, need a word that implies additional rules rather than changed rules... any walking thesauri about?

what would be realy cool is that for any term in the poidia, when a spherculism page loads containing one of the words listed, the word on the page turns into a hyperlink to the entry in the poidia... alternatively it could be set up as a tooltip so a mouseover will tooltip the defenition.

just a suggestion. i've been thinking on this for for some time now for the Ice-E FyreStorm Site.

still have to research weather it's viable. I mean, it might slow the site down some!?

It's been discussed before Sphism/smilesmiley Technically it's possible but a bit of a pig to implement. I'd probably say what was easier would be to let people link directly to the poidia using wiki-style tags

eg. to do an [[inverted]] [[weave]] do this blah blah blah

Yeah i'd love the wiki to be intregrated like you say.

It's been the plan for a while but is a bit beyond me.

It's certainly something we'll be trying to implement soon, well once i figure out why the bloody thing is broken lol

The wikipoidia is such a great resource already, we've been discussing filling it up with articles on specific topics and linking the pages to videos to show what it looks like. But since it's not working at the moment, progress is slow.
