Here's a place to generate ideas about the direction spherculism should take. It's in your hands now.

So if you could have anything on this site, what would it be?

No idea is too big or small.

I can't make any promises about what i can achieve, but as a community a reckon we'll be able to manifest quite a few of these ideas.

sometimes I wish we had a chat thing.. some people have im's some don't.. but I feel someitmes like it would be easier then sconstantly pm'ing everyone or trying to find them on messenger... not necessairly like mirc.. I know that some sites I used to be on just had this weird little chat section.. I dunno if it was part of the module or not.. but I think it would be a great social type section,help us get to know each other, and perhaps cut down on some of the thread tangents (though I dont' see us having that problem yet.. )

way to get around those people that odn't have ims but still want som direct contact with people..

again I don't know how feasible something like that is..

1 thing i don't like about chat is that everything you discuss gets lost. Which is good if you're shooting the breeze but not so good if you discover something great.

I look at it like this though matt.. anything discovered during chat can be cut and pasted to a fourm or retyped to the forum since your cahtting through the forum... no?!?

is there a way you can backup the chatfiles as a text file? shouldn't take up much space and if stored locally on internet could be easily made into archives to be deleted/overwritten weekly/monthly automatically!

How about a 'Moves Video Surgery'?-

We all know theres stuff we don't do right, and try for ages to explain the intricacies of what isn't working, yet loads of us have webcams, some have dvs- wouldn't it be great if we could standardise the size and format and then just submit say a 10-15 sec clip of failed attempt(s) at moves and then let everyone see the prob- its the next best thing to meeting (unless you count web conferencing but I doubt many of us have the kit or conections to facilitate that)

In such a supportive and trusting community we could help each other get around the little foibles we all encounter and move things forward as a group, plus there'll be a record of little poi epiphanies - Sort of tutorials backwards Sphism/smilesmiley I like the idea of being so open we can learn from eachothers mistakes.

Just a thought (and I know that the lack of vid equipment may be a prob but even the occasional 'why doesn't this work?!?' would be useful for many)

i think the chat thing wud be excellent especially for explaining stuff, in the forums sometimes i find terms or expressions i dont understand and theres no one to ask staright away, it wud be cool for lil things like that, thtas just one example and then just for chatting and if we did get into an intresting conversation bout some poi technique we can make a thread about it

Loove the idea of the video surgery Chut Sphism/gigglesmiley My sis always comes to me with that exact thing of 'why the heck isnt this working' . It's really small details , very difficult to explain in text. I'm totally up for this if its possible

As for my own thoughts...

Someone elese mentioned this of having basicallly a trading post for poi equipment between all of us here. As well as a little shop for people to sell their homemade poi for those that wouldnt want to make it. My other sister Bethany doesnt like making stuff. She's purchased all of her poi, and the ones she got though they work for her arent necessarily good quality. So what I'm getting at is a little shop for us to sell our homemade, quality and fairly priced items for poiple like my sis Sphism/smilesmiley

I love the idea of the video surgery. Instead of practicing secretly and only making a vid when you nail something you can make a vid before you can do a pattern fully. That way poiple can look at it like 'that's what happens to me too'.

My techy friend who sorts the site out is busy at the moment but i've said i'll pay him to sort out the video gallery as soon as possible. I put one up before but it had a serious security fault and so i took it down.

A Sphercular Community Market would be great. I could sest up an e-commerse site that members could use to sell their wares. There'd be some kind of quality control and all the money could be handled by paypal. Someone did point out that it might be easier to do the whole thing through e-bay instead. But i'd love to 'keep it in the family' you know.

I think we could go with decent poi realted shirts, Icon does some cool ones, and so does tePooka but I haven't seen anything totally great yet.

I was thinking of making one with my ¦m¦ on the blue flame background. Problem is i hate wearing white or blue :lol

Probably be quite cheap to have made, White T plus 2 colour screen print, blue and black, nice.

I've been debating getting a T-shirt machine to be honest with you... I just really want to be able to print my own shirts.. I see things all over that I'd love to ahve on a shirt..

or maybe an uncle sam "I want you" poster with the line from jay and silent bob "it is you who is the one who is the ball licker.." LMMFAO..

but anyway.. if I do go that route.. then yeah spherculsim can have custom shirts.. and they wont' really cost much more then a shirt and some shipping..

I ahve to see how things would go and what demand would be like.. its one of those things that I've been really wanting to do for about 2 yrs now and finally am in a position to kinda work out the details..

basically it comes to this.. I can cover half the cost easily.. the rest is still in deabte.. my wife may be getting a salary increas although we need to look into a vehicle as well..

I'm goign to see if some of my friends are interested and would like to go in with me.. I've got a couple of groups that would be interested in shirts for their charities and what not.. initially our shirts would ahve med-high resolution.. we'll see how things go..

how many people would be interested in shirts? (even customizable to a degree.. I won't be able to do ultra fine resolution artwork until later when I could afford a more expensive heavy duty commercial system...

I do graphic work, past things for me dads businesses (cards, logos, ad's, websites etc etc) stickers, images, misc peoples websites. Not terribly terribly good at making my own images up but if someone could tell me what they'd like it to be I can put it together nicely. So yah what I'm getting at is I can contribute to the visual part of them.

In September when i go back to Davis, CA i'll have access to the screen printing room at the arts and crafts center and i would love to whip out some firey shirts! Well.. poi shirts at least Sphism/smilesmiley

I'll post up some designs when inspiration strikes...

I think it would be awesome for spherculism to have a little shop! As well as having t-shirts to offer I have an old set of homemade firepoi that i dont use anymore (i spent the money to get some nice ballchain monkeyfists from home of poi).

As for trading posts...I tried to start that forum a few months ago..."where can I get that", but that was probably an inappropriate title, as there were never any hits on it. I myself would like to see a forum where not only can people try and sell their stuff, but also where we can help eachother find the best deals on hard to find items such as thick kevlar rope, chemicals that change the color of fire, and such.

and...a chat room is a fantastic idea. I have searched google, and have only found a few (Hop's, one for NYC burners, and little else).

What vid file types are permitted?- I rushed togther a wmv and it wouldn't go up (though I don't mind if wmv isn't OK as I hate MS most of the time Sphism/tonguesmiley)

Yep it's buggy as hell, i think it's not showing thumbnails because i changed the size from 70pixels to 150pixels.

I'll try to sort it.

Rev: I mean do you want a folder like 'Rev's badass poi class' instead of 'members videos' or what ever.

photos can be uploaded as...

jpg ~ Use this for phots with lots of different colours

gif ~ Use this if you have blocks of colour without much fading, or if you want some transparency.

png ~ this is a bitmap file with an alpha layer. that means it's a big file but very crisp colours and you can fade out to transparent.

Movie files can be uploaded as...

mpg ~ all round good, easy to download, no codec hell

avi ~ If you know how to make good ones use these, they are tidy little files BUT 'You don't have the right frigging codec' usually pops up when you try to view them.

swf ~ this is the flash file format like the tutorials i made. The file size is a bit big for movies but you can add in loads of extra stuff like tidy looping, preloaders, mouse interaction, slow motion and so on. But you need flash to make them.

On to more of the wish list.

I downloaded a wiki module for phpnuke and tried installing it but it was crap. So i downloaded another one that wasn't a module but that ws crap as well. In the first case it was crap and in the second i was crap too Sphism/smilesmiley

I've just been to wikipedia and it seems they use mediawiki, so i've downloaded that and will have a crack at installing it tomorrow.

I'm feeling pretty lucky so it should work.

I wanna know if he'd mind me using one of his quotes on a shirt... 'poi is like sex... you cant stop and sometimes it hurts..' maybe add a stick figure clocking himself in the -EAR-..
