Video Surgery and Photo Gallery

First off Here's a copy of another thread about what can be uploaded:

photos can be uploaded as...

jpg ~ Use this for phots with lots of different colours

gif ~ Use this if you have blocks of colour without much fading, or if you want some transparency.

png ~ this is a bitmap file with an alpha layer. that means it's a big file but very crisp colours and you can fade out to transparent.

Pixel dimensions for images wants to be no less than 360 x 240 and no more than 1600 x 1200. If your using photoshop then use the 'Save For Web' manager because it's really good at optimising files.

Movie files can be uploaded as...

mpg ~ all round good, easy to download, no codec hell

avi ~ If you know how to make good ones use these, they are tidy little files BUT 'You don't have the right frigging codec' usually pops up when you try to view them.

swf ~ this is the flash file format like the tutorials i made. The file size is a bit big for movies but you can add in loads of extra stuff like tidy looping, preloaders, mouse interaction, slow motion and so on. But you need flash to make them.

Pixel dimensions for movies want to be no less than 240 x 180 and no more than 600 x 400. Use Divx for compressing avi files if you can. Anyone know anything about compressing movies, i'm pretty crap at it. Please can someone post up links to some useful information about all this so that we can all learn how to do it. Cheers.

Have fun,

Right, once you've uploaded your 'media' it seems that you cannot edit what you've put up. Also it's not very obvious for me that there is stuff waiting for aproval. The whole thing is very buggy. Plus today i though i accepted 3 things from bhodiloco but only 2 seem to be there??? Very odd, sorry if i deleted one by mistake.

::IMPORTANT::

I've noticed that the galleries don't always seem to update each time you visit them. Like i'll update them from the control panel but when i take a look at them nothing has changed. However if you press F5 in internet explorer then your browser will reload the page and you will see all the new media

Does anyone know how i can sort this problem out, it is way beyond me.

the only video editing software i have is windows media. dos anyone know how i could convert these into avi or know of better shareware editing software?

Have you got the latest version of windows movie maker?

I was surprized that it is not only useful for cutting up clips but it is easy to use too. I'm pretty sure it will exprot other file types, but then again maybe not.

The prob with WMM is that it really wants you to use wmv- it will export to an avi, but it will take you hours and will be monstrous- that said you could probably reconvert that with a Divx codec to get it down to size.

Chut

I found a prog called #1 video converter- its not the best but seems to do the job (though file sizes are an issue)

Get a free trial HERE

Chut

Great work on the gallery!

You kept the best two bl uploads, though the third has its own merits...
will post it later this summer...smaller formats, too

Maybe get my love to try video capture as opposed to all these great stills...

Catch Y'all later...

bl

BhodiLoco: Did you upload 3 pictures? Cos only 2 are on the site now and I don't know why ???? I wanna see the third Sphism/sadsmiley

Mr Chutney has sucessfully uploaded a great video to the surgery,

:5

but i'm not sure there's anything I can do for ya Sphism/gigglesmiley that window move is something else.

So the file limit is now set to 10Mb

Even though the limit isn't mentioned.

Also you cannot upload .mpeg only .mpg >>> all that means is you need to delete the 'e' from the file extension.

Take her easy,

thanks matt, my dad suggsted i get the updated version as well so i'll get on the case!

i just watched mr.Chut's video but was unable to find a way of doing a 'save target as' like i usually do. i'm probably just being a muppet so could someone tell me what i need to do?

I found the 2 missing uploaded files from bodhiloco and saucy.

Dunno why they weren't added to the database even though they were on the server ????

I've asdded them but the descriptions were deleted.

I'm not sure you can save the media files, i'll look into it.

the galleries are soooo pimp.. and you know why? because you dont have to buy stuff to get gallery space like a certain other poi site i know.. Sphism/smilesmiley hehe

also the comment feature is pretty cool... yeah.. good work Sphism/smilesmiley

oh great lord of all muppets here is some advice.

1)why does it give an error when uploading my vids? page error

2)why does it say 8 new media files but doesnt show them

3)if I send you some clips matt can you convert them and get them up?

:52

i just spent this evening putting a quick video together only to be disapointed by the same problem. hope we can sort this out before i convince myself that it isn't good enough to share and change my mind about putting it up...

F5

This magical key reloads the page without using any files stored on your pc.

Go to the upload page, press F5 to reload it and everything should work.

Don't give up, i wanna see.

F5 also works for the gallery pages if you don't get new images popping up.

¦m¦

nah.. it just don't like it matt! Sphism/sadsmiley

boohoo

oh, you can't upload wmv files. only mpg (not mpeg) and avi

¦m¦

YAY! Now I haven't got to deal with those evil things.

well if it lieks you.. I went through hella trouble to make my wmvs into avis jsut for the puter to tell me.. rev you suck... noone wants to see that shit... and I had to petition a higher power to get my message out there...

so just to re-cap, how do i turn my wmv's into avi's then? :24 i've got wmm2 now but i can't seem to get it to let me do it and the help section's poo...

converting from wmv to avi is a bitch... and it makes the files ridiculously huge.. jsut do a search for wmv to avi..

oh and matt.. why are the itchell clips up twice.. and I have his other one that I can cut but it would then be wmv.. and we go back to the above.. unless anyone can recommend a good avi editor.. because that's what the files are start as..

if I can't get something to work, is there anyway I can upload to where the other clips are and then just start a thread with the links to each in it..
(like those 4 tangly ones are.. ) or do I have to email them to you and let you pop them up when you get time? because I'd like to keep the files small like they are bc it makes it dialup friendly..

anyway.. keep up the good work man.

oh and if anyone can let me know how to get my files at spymac d/l-able then I can just host them there and link.. save matt some time..

You can now upload WMV files, and they are pimpin

I'll get the max file size increased soon, but you still gotta keep your files as small as possible.

¦m¦

ok i read about people having a problem with viewing the new tutorials in slowmo somewhere but i cant seem to find the thread

annnyyyway one way of doing it (sortof-its better than nothing) is just to use the space bar which plays and pauses the video...
if you try it out im sure youll get what i mean and this way you dont need any fancy programs etc....

Sphism/winksmiley not that amazing but it serves the purpose

Doesn't work for me Sphism/sadsmiley

Hooray for videos! I would post, but all mine are at least six months old, thus no longer do justice to my repertoire of moves. Soon I'll have new ones to share Sphism/smilesmiley

For video editing, I tend to use Windows Movie Maker, just because I actually own that software

m2-edit Pro can edit mpeg types, and it exports to mpeg-1, mpeg-2, windows media, real media, and a specialized video cd version of mpeg-1. Unlike Windows Movie Maker, you can remove unwanted audio from clips.

QuickTime Pro can open mov, avi, dv, motion jpeg, and mpeg-1 -2 -4 video types and export to mov, avi, dv, or mpeg-4. It's good for converting.

If you can get your hands on Adobe Premiere, and your computer can handle it, by all means do it! It's not much more complicated than WMM and has scores more functionality, handling more file types than I can name.

Hope someone finds the info useful... looking forward to seeing videos Sphism/smilesmiley
