jumping on the intro bandwagon

What up guys ... brand new spinner here (as in a week ago). This one time at choir camp (no, I'm serious), I saw this guy spinning glow stick poi. It was the shit. Long story short, I'm obsessed. Thanks, Slick. m/

I'm 22, finally polishing off a B. Mus in Vocal Performance at the Hartt School in Hartford, CT. I like singing opera (which I'm starting to do professionally), working on anything with an engine, driving cars, designing web pages, screwing around on my computer, spinning poi, singing opera while spinning poi (odd, but it kinda works, and it's great for the breath control), and being generally myself.

So yeah. Hey.

Peace

Well... Opera and poi actually do mix... at least here in the Bay Area.

We had an opera singer, Marisa Lenhardt (http://www.marisalenhardt.com/), at the Fire Arts Festival for the big finale each night, singing something from the soundtrack to the 5th Element... For the first 3 minutes of her piece, fire fans and fire fingers performers were on stage. Then, 30+ fire spinners stepped up onto a long berm behind the stage and started spinning fire. Then all the fire sculptures went off around the audience... gotta love it!

We also have the San Francisco Opera, which has been trying to connect with younger audiences by lending their sets, costumes, and performers for big warehouse parties once a year or so. Okay, that might have had something to do with their set designers being Burning Man regulars...

wow opera poi! Cool!! Sphism/gigglesmiley

I remember seeing a street preformer singing opera. I wish I could understand what it all meant though. Sphism/sadsmiley
So have you got a favorite colour? I'm guessing red. Sphism/confusedsmiley

Red is close, but ultimately I prefer black. *cheshire cat smile*

Hm she's got a cool voice

Just to clear myself incase was taken wrong way, I personally like opera and thought it was very cool to do them together.. it was merely the first I heard of it. Was not dissing incase it was thought that way!
