Chains or cable
RightI'm going to take the plunge and buy some firepoi, but I really don't know whether to get chain or cable ones. Alsooo, Someone said not to get the standard poi bits and get monkeyfists or those cathedral wicks. Just wondered what poiples views were in order to make an informed purchase, What does everyone else have.....xxx

I'd go for Cathedrals and ball chain- cathedrals burn for quite a long time, have little metal in them and from my brief experience with them are just lovely. Ball chain would appear to be the peoples choice- I suggest you head over to the 'a new flame will be born' thread of Poikid's which has seen much discussion of these and other fire poi related queries.

Hey girlie!
Well , though I'm loving my fire poi (unlit as they still are tho) , the cable definitally seems to limit flexibility and hyperloopery. I dont know what ball chain is like but so far everyone says its awesome. I dont know about the heads. I'd just say if you dont mind losing some qualities because of lack of equipment not ability then cables are fine

I think I'm goin to go with the consensus on the other thread and get monkey fists with ball chain... So where would be the best place to get them from preferably in England so they come quicker..No offence to people in other counries though

Mine are cathedral wicks with ball chain.. I love them cos they burn forever and the ball chain is good for hyperloopery and throws and changing lengths and stuff. Another thing is that they seem to last a long time; I was given them by a friend a while ago who'd already had them for a year and they're still fine. The only problem is that they're quite heavy (4ft of wick on each head and a big metal bolt through it).. but you get used to them.

Just got some monkey fists from HOP, not used them yet but will definately change the cables for chain first as it's kinked just from practice

Everyone says that about cable although a friend recommended it because it's lighter and she said that chain doesn't swing as well but i'm still going for ball chain

Ball chain. NOTHING works as well as ball chain. Keep away from cable as it's the worst possible option if you want to do any nice spinning and it'll really limit your growth as a spinner IMO

cathedral wicks with DOG chain, super thin dog chain. It never breaks and is perfect for sliding along chain and skin.
Those monkeys suck, they are FAR to heavy to do any decent moves and slow also, though they burn good, cathedrals are lighter and burn as long.
But if you havnt spun much fire i wouldn't recomend either, id say get some small heads untill you get better with fire, because toooo much fire can really put you off. :20

My glopoi are super heavy and I find that I spin better with them than my practice poi So I don't mind heavy wicks really, I prefer them. Thanks for the input everyone xxx

Lol me, I just buy chain (2x70cm - about 21 inch -) Then I've take a pipe (About 10 cm - 4 inch) And then I've rolled up some Kevlar tissue around it.
I've hook them together

I use Chatedral wicks and ball chain, then I have knoted hemp rope as handels. If youre starting to spin you should definetly have looped handels (the normal ones). I find it hard to do a lot of wraps, isolations and of course throws with looped handels.
I agree with previus speakers on ball chain insted of wire. Wicks are a difrent mather.
Monkeyfist are nice to spin and burn beauteful, but they are painfull to wrap and a bit heavy fore my taste.
Rolled wicks are ok. When spinning fire inside I prefer then couse there not to big.
Chatedral are my prime choise. They are the perfect mix of the other too.
The most important for me is the chain and the handels. Whats burning at the end of the chain is not that importent. I lost my first poi and what I miss are the handels.
Thats my point of view on the subject.
