Practice Places
So, I was wondering: What sort of places does everyone practice in? What environments do we all find best for learning new skills, improving old ones, and developing spinning styles? ![]()
Location-wise, most of my practicing so far's been done in my basement, my room, and a hallway in my high school. They're fine aside from space limitations. Kept me from practicing some things, but also taught me to not hit walls/objects/people as much. The hallway at school was where I ate lunches with some of my friends, they were probably the only ones who had any idea what I was doing. The in the house locations are near computers that house (or housed) big chunks of my music collection. I usually practice to music, whether just because I listen to music just about all of the time or because there's some tunes that really make me want to spin or whatever...I list a lot more reasons, I'm sure, but I'd spend too much time tripping over words. I do that a lot.
I've also practiced in a few outdoor locations as well. They're always much better space-wise. I intend to spend more time practicing outside. Not really sure why I haven't just grabbed a stereo or something and headed out somewhere more often. Probably has something to do with the me not getting out much. Well, there's a park right by my college so no excuses once I've settled in there. ![]()
So how 'bout the rest of you?

Practice Places
I learn in my backgarden because there's loads of space. But on a monday night I go to juggling club at a local nightclub. LOts of loud music and like minded poiple and I find I learn loads there too. Could be something to do with less inhibitions due to having a drink. Although I don't condone drinking and spinning at all due to poi that take on their own mind and fly off in various directions. Not good

At home in my room, in various people's gardens if I'm at a party, clubs and at the spinning workshop at Spitz I go to every (well, sort of) week. Probably my best practise comes when I'm at a party of some kind and somewhat under the influence

I like praticing outdoors.. that way you can watch your shadow to make sure all your split times are right on (if the sun is right). Front yard is good... the beach is better! maybe a park sometime...

I have a large mirror and a computer in my living room so thats where i pactice spinning alot. I also like spinning outside and recently I started helping my friend learn to spin. Which is wonderful cause now i don't have to be a lone spinner.

Mirror? Computer?

That all sounds very breakable
I spin mainly in my living room (nice high ceiling
) Or out on Dartmoor, or occasionally in the office (bad idea though- computers
)

Reflective surfaces are really useful, though. And I've spun around computers and TVs and windows plenty of times and have yet to destroy any of them. Ceilings, on the other hand...

I think spinning in such an enclosed space with breakables has helped and hurt me. I am really good at spinning close to my body but now have to work on more extension stuff that i neglected due to space restrictions. Also you learn quickly not to hit anything. I knocked my sisters bird cage over (which i don't like anyways cause birds shouldn't be in a cage) and the two birds started flying around the room. Which freaked me out cause i don't like birds flying near me i feel like their gonna peck me or something.
Well anyway after that i learned to be a bit more careful. Oh yeah the ceiling is totally f***ed after spinning there. I only spin inside by the mirror for practice and i guess I like to watch myself spin. I guess its my only narcisstic trait.
