Fire Poi Handles?
Having now been spinning fire for a month or two I'm now keen to move onto more techy stuff with my flames. What I'm in dire need of is decent set of gripable handles, as the finger loops are really limiting me ![]()
I've heard some people say they use rope, and I've seen some groovy wooden ball handles on some poi site somewhere, but I'm in a quandry- any suggestions please?

Fire Poi Handles?
I've seen people use large metal rings .... especially for throws and stuff. However, I know that my friend needs to tape his hands before every spin when he uses the rings ....
I'm experimenting with a new set of handles - large wrist loops, but long enough to grip between fingers near the end - made out of rock climbing webbing. I'll let you know how those work.
Other than that - I've only ever used different variations of the two finger loop models (except for my socks .... which I just grip in the palm of my hand.
Good luck - and let us know if you come up with a good design.

What handles do you have at the mo?
How are they limiting you?
Where did you see the wooden balls?
How many questions will I ask?
Ahem... four.

Mine are build with jean.... Just a strip, I did a knot.... And that's rock....
I've friends who have some good handles - making in leather - and other just grip the chain - Outch..... Poor fingers..... - .
My jean strips are suitable for me.... Maybe Im just easy.....
Just try and choose your favorite.... But I think that's not required a large budget.

Umm, through essay avoidance I've stumbled across this old thread on exactly this topic- Oh the shame of it, I've cross posted  Any Mods feel like combining the two threads?

StoneT- you'll see theres a link to those wooden ball handles- I love the idea but I'd have to ship internationally, and it could cost a fortune

Yeah, those wooden ones look cool.

Possably not too hard to make either. got a dremmel?

I use a hemp rope aprox 1 cm thick. One end is attatched to the chain (doh) and the oter is knoted together to make a good 3cm thick handel. Its working great for me. I use hemp becuse i find it harder to burn than cutton.
A small warning about these types of handels. You need a lot of practise to get used to them. I have seen people send burning poi out into audiens on a number of ocasions. It´s VERY unprofesionall. I´ve dropt them myself but never infront of a crowd. So PRACTICE before you fire up and keep on practicing with your fire poi both lit and unlit.
Thats my view of the subject.
Happy spinning

StoneT- Yup I have access to a dremmel at my new place- a B&Q visit is on the cards upon my return to London
Zodiak- Yeah I completely agree about practice- I hope it didn't come cross that I want to be more 'flash' with my fire spinning- whilst I like showing people fire, I'm only really concerned with throwable handles because I feel limited in not being able to fully push myself- its not showiness
BTW- re stuff flying into audiences- I was in Cambridge a few weeks back and a friend of mines brother shows up with some fire gear, which was cool. Lets just say his equipment was 'innapropriately built' for the task- I have video of me skipping over a flaming poi head as it flies off after he turns a 3bt weave- thank f*** it went down to the ground and not into my face!

Just thought I'd mention that following a chat with StoneT I'm going to try using wooden cabinet handles (wodden ball type efforts) as a throwable fire handle- will update with progress, results
