Anyone know how to do one of these? im not really sure how to explain it, i just know it looks fun and is pretty challenging for me at the moment to even grasp how its done lol... theres this animation thing on firechains.com but thats the closest thing to a "How to..." that ive found on the move...

Can you do a 3bt Weave Forwards and backwards?

Can you turn from one to the other?

Can you point your feet to one side so you don't have to move them when you turn?

Can you move your weave up and down?

If you answered yes to all of these then you CAN do a fountain.

It's this move http://www.spherculism.com/tutorials/weave/3btW_turns_Z_MV.html

But when you go from forwards weave to backwards weave you put the whole lot down Low. When you go from Backwards to Forwards you put the whole lot up high in the air. So the central point of the weave turn is going round in a Giant Circle.

You can also Invert this, the Giant circle travels in the opposite direction to the circle of your poi.

This can also be done with buzzsaws, windmills, mexican waves and all that stuff. Actually it can be done with every poi move you know, I call it mixin' it up.

Now you've got me counfused. I though the video was a waist wrap, isn't a foutain a trasition from a reverse weave to a forward in the Z (wall plane) using a windmill?

I learnt how to do a fountain from The Book Of Poi Spinning by Michal Kahn. A bit expensive, but I think it's well worth the money... really well explained with comprehensible text (not too much tech/jargon!) and chunky, high-vis illustrations.

That's just turning a 3 Beat Weave from Forwards to Backwards.

A waist wrap is where you spin a circle in 1 place, then within 1 revolution, move your hand around your body and do the same spin again ~ but with your hand in this new position. I'll dig out a video.

Achluo: Your description of a fountain is right. Only I think the windmill is used to add a couple extra beats to the fountain ~ not part of the fountain itself.

But it doesn't matter. Just be ware that you can alter the height that you are spinning your weave, play with the height changes and you'll discover how dramatically you can affect the timing of your rhythm. A move like 'The Fountain' need only be regarded as a means to better understand some fundamentals.

So once you crack that you'll figure you can apply the principle of moving the center of rotation around during all your other patterns. I tend to practice to 'Off Beat' tunes. People jamming on drums, crazy experimental jazz, human beatboxing and so on. Try to hit the beats dead on by altering the height of your hands in between the beats.

Cool thx
im alittle lost on which moves are which and the whole thing about planes and all that... im pickin it up tho Sphism/smilesmiley

Hey Exodus, you're in the right place.

One of spherculisms primary goals is to create a unified notation.

So we are all talking the same language and can explain our ideas quickly and easily.

The project is called 'Encyclopoidia Omnimodus'

I've always referred to fountain as a 3 point weave... simply because you cant do the actual fountain btb... however you can do the premise behind it , a la 3 point weave....

basicalyl for me the easiet 3 point weave is to do a reverse weave on the left side using the fron and wall planes... and do a forward weave on the right... this results in 3 points, rear left, forward center, and rear right... thus the 3 point weave...

some will argue that a fountain has 4 points.. basially the 2 weave points front and rear count as 2 and high and low count as 2... but I still say 3 since a perfect fountain still hits the 3 points, since it goes far left windmill like from back to front center, far right , low center, lather, rinse, repeat...
