2 Diabolo
I've just learned to manipulate 2 diablo after being totally inspired at ejc.
Has anyone got any tips for doing the plane corrections though?
Everyone seems to have their own way of doing it but nobody can put it into words ![]()
Cheers,

2 Diablo
Hey Matt, just wondered is two diablo with both on one string or what. I do a little diablo but nothing awe-inspiring. x

2 on one string I guess. I've seen 3 done which is pretty mind-bending!

Wooooowwwwwwwwwww. I bet you need magic powers for that.!x

I know alot of people who do 2 diablo (some even do 3!) and their way of correcting tilt, is tapping the diablo at one side- tapping on the back side will tilt the diablo backwards, and tapping the front side will tilt the diablo forwards... (both of which are assuming you're tapping the top part, you can tap the opposite bottom part for the same effect)
Hope I helped

Just starting out on the road to 2 diablo myself right now- I got loads of handy tips from Vux (Julien) at Spitz last night- lots of practice on my holidays and I hopefully will have the base manipulation by the end of the summer.

i was wondering if it is easier to start with the wrap start or just to throw the 2nd diabolo into the string? although i can't do either, when i try the wrap start it keeps sliding down and hitting the other one. i did realise that once i can keep it up and get it spinning i have to unwrap on the outside of the diabolo before i throw it under the other one. (i think) i've got pretty close to keeping them going by throwing the 2nd one on.

Ok first off :
I uploaded some really old diabolo videos i made after just a coupla months spinning 2, they are a little embarassing but might be useful for beginners. You can find them in the gallery tutorial videos:
Matts old diabolo tutorial videos
When i started spinning 2 i always used the 'throwing in' technique.
I used to practice just throwing the diabolo up and down in 1 hand.
Theres a few different ways to hold it but i grip it on the rim between my thumb and fingers.
It's tricky to throw it up and keep it level.
Once you can keep the throw level it's relatively easy to get the diabolo 'shuffle' going.
The main drawback is that the diabolo isn't spinning all that fast so it goes wonky pretty quick and needs to be accelerated.
The other good way to do it is by wrapping the string once around the diabolo and accelerating it, you should be unwrapping the cup closest to you to get into the shuffle (sounds like that might be where you are going wrong)
It's a trickier start i would say.
The first thing to sort out is how to put the diabolo on the string.
Then you need to spin it as you let go, just to get it going a little.
Then you need to grab the other hand stick and start accelerating it real hard (new string makes this bit very hard)
Once it's spinning pretty quick you flick it out of the 'back cross' (which i think is the term used for when the string is wrapped around the cup closest to you)
And go into the shuffle.
The main benefit of this technique is that both the diabolos can be spinning really quick straight away, which means you need to do fewer corrections.
Well i hope that helps you out a little. I've been meaning to make some more diabolo videos for ages now. But i've hardly spun in a year now so, i dunno. I also need a new hard drive i think cos mine are full to bursting point with footage from the dvd.
Have fun,
matt

cool, the vids should help out.
I'm about to get some cash from selling a few dvd's, so if i have some spare i'll probly get a 250Gb hard drive and have lots of space for making new videos X(
But who knows if i'll have any spare, i think it might all go pretty quick.
Anyhoo, i can't even remember what's in those videos, so if you watch them maybe keep a track of what's in each one and post if there's any particularly useful bits (or if they are rubbish and need deleting
)

been practicing 2d since last friday and can now consistantly shuffle from a wrap start untill they need correcting. matt, i've watched some of your wrap starts many times, thanks for the tutorials. reading through the 14 page thread on starting and accelerating 2d on diabolo.ca helped also.
i have just started to change my habit of holding my accelerating hand (right) with the palm facing upwards most of the time to holding it palm down. i like the feel of holding it underhand for 1d accelerations for some reason, but i noticed in the videos i watched that a lot of the time for 2d the palm is down and the stick is facing in towards the diabolos for correction and control. seems to have helped.

Ah yep right hand palm down and pointing directly along the line of the string works best for me.
My Left hand holds the stick very loosely, palm down, i rest the end of the stick in my palm, then rest the stick on the side of my thumb. This gives a really good bouncy grip. Consider it to be a shock absorber, always keeping the string tight.
Corrections are crazy hard to get your head around, you can tap either cup, on top or bottom. Get into the habit of jumping 1 diabolo slightly high out of the shuffle to give yourself maximum time to make the correction.
You can play about with 1 diabolo to see how the tapping affects the tilt, just wrap it up in the string somehow and poke it with the stick.
Next time i get the camera out i'll film some corrections for ya,
Have fun,

thanks that would be helpful. i have heard that it is easier to correct during the wrap acceleration postion than to just correct as they are shuffling. so i was thinking about working on learning to wrap accelerate with 2d before working on basic correction. also it's easier to do corrections when the diabolos are spinning faster. what do you think? if you could make a video of a 2d wrap acceleration tutorial i would really appreciate it.
