Morning Kiddies
Hello all,
I have been recommended this site by a good friend of mine. Glad to have found a non intimidating site - was reading what some of you say about HOP. I've been a member of that for ages but never posted anything and now have forgotten my password. Everything for a reason.
Anyway, to introduce myself: I'm play poi mostly, though when I first started this juggling stuff I was a staff girl cos there were loads of girls who did poi. Now I'm one of them too. and play less staff (not very compact is my main excuse). Also juggle 3 balls. A bit of contact - very limited tho. But poi, tails and non tails, are my current addiction.
I live nr Reading, was part of the Reading 'Rising Circus' workshops for a while. Have plans on moving back to Londinium in the next 3months. Who knows what life brings . ... ![]()

Hello there, welcome to the site, hope you enjoy your time here :57
Morning Kiddies
Hello you. Welcome aboard.
I like hop, it just hasn't changed much in the passed 3 years.
Poi on the other hand has changed enormously in that time.
That's why we made spherculism.
enjoy your stay.
¦m¦
Morning Kiddies
morning and welcome. Hope you like it here. I've done the opposite to you and am starting to learn staff after doing poi. yay. x
Morning Kiddies
DJmagicfairy - isn't double staff easier to learn than single staff considering you began with poi?
Thank you to those who said hello.
HOP seems less scary already. But maybe that's part of it: once you know ish some ppl who post stuff, it's not so daunting.
Am currently intruiged by tangle moves. Shall have a look round this site and see if I can learn something tangley...
Morning Kiddies

Morning Kiddies
where exactly do you live? i live in reading, moved from Newbury couple months ago. are the rising sun poi workshops any good? iv been meaning to find out about them. iv been experimenting with tangles recently, far far too addictive. and they will make you crack up
take it eazy :37
Morning Kiddies
Hey, haven't tried double staff yet and my single staff arrives today woo hoo. will have a go at two and let you know. You've got me thinking now. x
Morning Kiddies
Firebreath - I don't live in Reading but that's the place everyone has heard of. actually live half way between Reading and Newbury. little village.
Rising Sun aka Rising Circus workshops are brilliant. Good standard and mix of toys. Lovely ppl. though I havent been since about March. I wonder if it's still going...?
djmagicfairy - your single staff arrives today. Where did you order it from? toys arriving through the post is SO EXCITING!
Morning Kiddies
do u ever come into reading? im a bit desperate to find people to poi with. thanks 4 the info on rising sun, ill make sure to find out when it is and drop by.
Morning Kiddies
Firebreath - I have been looking on the Rising Sun website and there is no mention of the tues workshops so I've emailed the guy who used to run it. Shall keep you posted...
Morning Kiddies
wicked, thanks v much
how long have you been doing poi for
:
:29
Morning Kiddies
Getting it from beard because the fella who runs our workshop gets them cheaper. I can't wait he's dropping it off later. My new fire poi are coming aswell so double toy trouble tonite methinks. xx
Morning Kiddies
I've been doing poi for hmmm about 3 years. and single staff for 5 ish years but havent been learning any moves for ages. 2 years ago, my fairie friend and I learnt a new move every Sunday over the summer. This year I've been teaching all my trix to others but now I'm reading about these tangle dodars ... I wanna learn! I have basic isolations but again need to know more..
I bought my fire poi from ballsulike.biz. I also bought fire proof gloves as my issue up until a year ago was that I was afraid of fire. Like really really afraid of fire. Hence why I went to Aerotech - cos all my friends had fun with fire at night. and I was the coatstand. Now, I know the fire poi can;t burn my hands when lighting up, all is better: Yay for fire proof gloves!
Morning Kiddies
well u shouldn't have too many problems if you can do isolations(i cant do isolations  )
tangles rule :!:
i started doing airwraps about 3-4 weeks ago but a few days ago i figured out a few whole hyperloops, other places to enter/exit, how to keep the tangle moving and other bits and peices. yesterday i made myself learn everything i could remember backwards and today was crazy  . iv been repeatedly pulling off some awsome tangles (some stuff that i thought would take me months).
if u dont have sock poi then get some and just hit them together, try to get a feel for the tangle. have u seen the tutorials section
: some hyperloop vids there + the hyperloop forum is worth a peek.
Morning Kiddies
I think I can do some hyperloops and also air wraps. But some only backwards and turning one way etc. This is due to watching my friend Coleman about a year ago, trying to memorize this crazy stuff, then spending the next x amount of time trying to recreate it from memory. I have superslow internet, no broadband for me, so vids take aaaaaaages to download.
I have some sock related poi. I used ot find the stripeysock version too springy and fast, though fantastic visuals if were fluoro stripeys! I've made my own nontail poi with visual effect for isolation benefit. On elastic handles to have springyness if on max length but usually I wrap poi around my hands cos I do lots of wheel/?buzzsaw moves.
I shall see if I can download somehting this afternoon. Yesterday my computer randomly downloaded one of Matts poi vids, another Coleman move <or to me at least>, so when I was shutting down I got a nice surprise! 8O
Morning Kiddies
me got slow internet 2
. getting them backwards can be a bitch, i tend to have quite a long poi session if i do hyperloops because i think i make more progress that way. im taking a bit of a break from hyperloops. iv gotten lost in what moves i can and cant do with them. im doing a bit of isolation practice at the mo. i don't really want to let my controll drop.
sock related poi?
i cant use stripey socks to well, im used to ski socks. mats vids are awsome. the freestyle vids rule but can take an age to download.
2 things about hyperloops that just sprung to mind apparently its better to practise hyperloops with a heavy weight in ur sock poi(eg a juggling ball rather than another sock) and its also good to wrap the round ur hands (like 4 buzzsaws) so that you can feel the tangle properly

Morning Kiddies
Well the easiest grip for maximum control is holding the poi inbetween your thumb and first finger. You lose reach but gain control
Morning Kiddies
Helloooo!!  and more  !!
Is there any particular trick to learning to juggle?? I've been learning slowly throughout the past week or two and can only seem to get 4 catches..hmm...
It's AWESOME to have you here

Hello!

Hope You won't be so "psylent" here as you were on HOP
I still find posting there intimidating  It's kind of like a big city, you have to be a bit louder so your voice doesn't just get lost.
¦S¦ on the other hand is a quiet little (but currently growing!) village where poips can chill and chat.
I'm sure you're loving it here already
Morning Kiddies
So Friday last week I went on HOP to bravely make my first post. Cos now I've been posting here it's gonna be easy...
But it won't accept my username or password -dont know which. I've only just joined, again, cos I have forgotten my previous 3 passwords. Apparently now is not the time for meto post on HOP - just as well cos its so vast and this site is much more Gruffalo bite size.
And whoever said that wonderful line about hippopotamus's and water, I quite agree.
For todays pronounciation lesson.. What is the plural of Moth?
(Moth's -I find this is trickyto say, tonguetwisterlike, as has too many thhh's and sssss's too close togetha)
And then.. what do you get if you cross a hippo with loadsa moths?
A hippopotalofovmoths!
I like the play of words. And playtime in general.
My psylent lizardness is quite accurate as a title. To me, emailing/posting is silent conversation: nothing spoken outloud. So much can be said yet nothing said. Always good.
Slightly different flavour: then playing poi for hours and not say a word to anybody. Or playing with one other person, trying to copy moves at the same time without saying what you're gonna do. Telepathy poi or similar possible nonsense!
Oh with HOP I was gonna post something re Bristol Juggling Convention. I'm told it's very poi friendly. Even though I can juggle it's always nice to be able play poi too.
Anyone here Bristol Juggling Convention-ing this weekend (final bit, ends Sun)? I'm going Fri day to Saturday night. short n sharp but my 1st Juggling Convention.
Morning Kiddies
Moths hmm.. mothes... mothies... I would say:

Darned little flapping thingies
Dunno how you describe something belonging to someone called Cath though. (That darned unpronounceable woman's stuff? nah sound's like an innuendo)
:10
There's a thread in 'The gathering' section on the Bristol thing. Wish I could make it, sounds good
P.S. Hippopotamus thing is a quote from 'Life of Pi'. Very good book
Morning Kiddies
How do I get to the Gathering. I get "Sorry, you can't access this file directly..."
How do I get to it indirectly?
Life of Pi is one of my top amazing books.
Also the Philip Pullman 'Dark Materials' triology
Also The Ladies No 1 Detective Agency books 1-5
Also 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime'
And (kids book) 'The Cheese and Tomato Spider' by Nick Sharatt.
Kids books rule! Proper imagination and descriptivneess.

I read "Curious Incident" in one sitting, as I almost did with The Amber Spyglass. Just read Animal Farm and 1984; currently reading The Bell Jar and some random fantasy called The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. It's all gravy! I also loooooooooooooove The Lord Of The Flies. Yes, that's right, Flies not Rings! Although they are ok too... Tolkein does go on sometimes a bit though.
Narnia! Narnia! Narnia!
Morning Kiddies
I got to 'The Gathering' bit but not via the 'Jump to' at the bottom of this page.
I vote the Lion, Witch and Wardrobe anyday. Just because everyone has a cupboard of two somewhere in their house; therefore we can all cliimb into another world through that...
Or find a one-off knife and slice the air abit, zap through that way.
Other worlds right here in my own house. - how good is that?!
Morning Kiddies
You could do the thing that Will does when he lets his mind travel down the knife with your poi... Might make you a bit dizzy sometimes...!
Morning Kiddies
Hello theres
Narnia series are luvly...
Morning Kiddies
Bristol Juggly thing was great.
I had my 24hrs worth. When I arrived it was booooooooodiful sunshine and everyone was playing toys outside.
Friday night, fantastic showtime.
then Saturday, windy... grey... rain.
The games were held inda big tent, very circusy, very daft, then time for me to go. Aaaaaaarse.
Today, Sun, its sunny. Grrr
