sony is sony, those new little ones look pretty sweet though.

Mini DV rocks. Mini DVD is a bit lame cos they are new and over priced. Hi 8 is low quality

yikes! JVC sucks? Ugh. That's what my mom bought me. We've only filmed a little bit so far, and it looks OK on the TV - but I haven't figured out all the techy specs to get the video up on the computer .... is it because it's a JVC?

For now, it will have to do, since I already opened it up and played with it a little bit. But if it turns out to bite - and if I become addicted to it - I'll get a new one in a year or so.

:roll: note - That's what I said about my digital still camera a year ago - that I wasn't going to go crazy about taking care of it and be too anal about it - I was just gonna use it and try to get my money's worth - and that camera is the best investment ever. I've taken thousands of photos - brought it out in the rain and the snow and the playa and it just won't die. Mayybe I'll get lucky with my dv too - but if I have to buy another one, then I'm talking to Matt first!!

Getting video onto pc is always a pain. If you have firewire or usb conection then it should work okay. Makes no difference what make it is. You probably just need ot install the software that came with it. Your computer will probably detect the camera when you plug it in. Open up the software (or if you're using a pc you could use movie maker) Somewhere you'll find a 'capture video' button (probably under the file menu)

Then you can record to your hard drive.

For small web videos i use 320 x 240 pixels .avi file (codecs suck but divx is okay)

for bigger web vids use 640 x 480 px

If it's american then it'll work on NTSC or whatever it is, not PAL. All that means is the pixel size and frame rate. For some reason in USA it's 30 frames per second, over here it's 25fps.

Have a blast. I love wating myself spin in slow motion.

You can probably watch backwards slo motion as well, which is great to learn how to do moves in the opposite direction Sphism/smilesmiley

JVC *does* suck. We jumped through all the hoops - bought the fire wire card, the fire wire, installed video editing software etc etc etc ....still couldn't get the JVC to work on my PC.

I went to the store and exchanged it for a Panasonic today - they didn't even argue with me. We brought home the new one, and it works like a charm.

Poikid - yeah - my birfday was a couple weeks ago. No worries - even my mom missed it - that's why I got the camera last week!!

unfortunately, NYC wasn't there last week - but I'll tell him you requested video, and that'll make him come out and spin this weekend!
