Contact Meteor

Contact Meteor?!? Same as Contact Staff only a little bit more difficult Sphism/winksmiley

A field that every Meteor player encunters from time to time Sphism/coolsmiley though most of the time not on purpose Sphism/tonguesmiley
It is difficult to keep the meteor straight during the contact. I dont have a lot of experience in this field but I would recommend
a.) practice with a staff first and
b.) start with horizontal moves.
Due to the fact that gravity has the "same effect" on both ends in horizontal all contact moves seem to be a little bit easier this way.

Loads of pain to explore!

horizontal contact isn't too tricky, vertical is super hard IMO.

The only advice i have is that you can turn with the rotation of the meteor. This makes it seem to you like the meteor is travelling very slowly and allows you to spot your catch.

Just play with it Sphism/smilesmiley

I find vertical easier than horizontal, thats just me though. Horizontal seems rather limited to me too at the moment, I mean it looks nice but I guess I dont have the imagination to push it forward. I mean I can do the back spins, around the neck, body, legs horizontal, but it all feels like the same exact move just across different parts of the body. Yes your entry and exit points can be different, ie neck roll to exit at the waist, but it's the same move. I'm just biased and grumpy at the moment mebbe, perhaps I should apply the same principles I use from vertical contact and apply them to horizontal eh. What I've found in vertical seems to be a bit more freedom due to the fact that you can do multiple thru wraps on different parts of the body at the same time. I can't really imagine doing an elbow thru wrap on on side and a btl thru wrap to exit to a neck wrap horizontally, for example. With horizontal it always seems that you're only doing one wrap at a time..Someone plz prove me wrong Sphism/gigglesmiley

try doing a fishtail, for those of you that practice contact staff. interesting things happen but i think its possible, the first half certainly is . second half needs work

I need to dust off ye old meteor and try this, sounds really tricky, as much of a fishtail seems to rely on the implement being able to roll independently(and equally on both sides). Perhaps if you're trying this with alot of leading edge. Any more luck on this for you?

not very much leading edge.
progress ??
not toobad. its not doing a fishtail, the first part works fine but on the return the fact you are not dealing with a solid object makes itslelf painfully aparrent.
you will find that if you do the motion with your hand the meteor co-operates in its own way with a bit of a wrap and unwrap.

for a look at some of me doing meteor
go and have a look at www.fields of fire.uni.cc
www.fields of fire.cjb.net.
its at the end of a compilation .
its a bit big, i might just separate some meteor off for you guys, but download the full thing, it 7 mins but well worth it.

Nice way to describe it, but isnt this what the meteors are doing all the time Sphism/winksmiley

I cant find your webpage - could you give a link ?!?

thx and cheers

andy

no.. clearly a poor way to descibe it,
yes the meteor wraps and unwraps a little each time, but i mean more, as opposed to just one or a half turn wrap, go for two, then let them unwrap as you transfer the spin to your other side.
damn i just cant describe it........
okay the website is www.fieldsoffire.cjb.net

edited as i mis typed the link to the website....sorry

nah, that makes a little more sense..thnx for the links, I'll have to check them out..You ever see my vid? The meteor wasn't spectacular, but I got a bit of contact meteor in.

yup. got it saved on my pc, with there being so few meteor resources on the net i think ive seen almost everything there is. everything i could find certainly.
had some good practice yesterday, couldnt sleep so went to spin at dawn while the sun came up, and got my left hand working much much better.
my majour criticism of me is that i dont use my left hand enough so that what i will be working on. no super new moves, just get what i have clean in both directions with both hands.

Fishtails (forward and reverse) with meteor aren't as hard as one might imagine. I've only been playing around with contact meteor the last couple of weeks but i've managed to get some nice patterns on both hands (only in the vertical plane). I find contact with passing actually easier because if your starting to get the contact too far up one end, (happens when you do too many single arm consecutive fishtails) you can 'cernter' it again by starting again with the other hand.
I think the secret is just doing the same hand movments that you would do when holding the meteor.

Hello all,
I had a few questions about where to start with the contact meteor. I have been spinning meteor for a few months and want to start in on the contact tricks but don't have any resources for it so I wanted to know what trick you guys started with. Reading the thread I see that horizontal is probably easier to start with. What I want to get to (way) down the road is doing a matrix with a meteor. My brother can do it with a staff and we think it is possible but very difficult. Thoughts? Suggestions?
