OK...

Well, I'm sorry to say that my reply is not a particularly positive one, asaf. Sphism/sadsmiley

My main gripe is that of safety- I get the impression you've included drops and mistakes perhaps in an attempt to add a little humour to the piece- whilst this isn't a bad thing in itself, almost every mistake didn't make me laugh, it made me wince- I really thought either something or someone was going to get burned.

And I'm sorry to say the guy doing devil stick, no matter now good his devil stick is otherwise, just didn't look competent enough to safely use fire gear (for example if he messed up one of those backwards propeelor things he could easily injure himself.)

The sad thing is theres some good spining in there, I just didn't feel I could focus on it with my anxiety level already brimmed for disaster.

I do appreciate that you've probably put a hell of a load of time into the vid, and the editing etc was all great; just try and spin safe eh? We don't want any spherculists getting hurt Sphism/winksmiley

If I've caused you any offence please don't hesitate to PM me,

Chut :2

ok, don't think those outtakes were on purpose, I think naama didn't hold her poi right, and liran had cathedral wicks on his devilstick, which aren't as good as tube cores for devilstick, the wick flew off because the bolting on the cathedrals got released somehow (this was only his third burn...[the devilstick is made by passe passe, by the way]), I told him to talk to the guy who sold him the devilstick ( and ask him to replace it for a better one.

hopefully he'll listen to me...

if you're talking about dropping my poi while throwing, or dropping the devilstick, that's just a few misses, if I perform in front of an audience on a stage I won't do throws on the front of the stage, if I perform on a wooden stage, no throws at all, way too risky...

that being said... what do you (and everyone else) think of the vid and/or our devilstick/poi skills

The outtakes didn't really scare me... I've spun enough fire that I've seen those types of things happen before and it didn't look like anything was too out of control... though I didn't see any Safety people rushing out to help, so maybe the proper precautions weren't taken.

I did, however, feel cheated because my expectations were raised by the "worth watching" bit of the title. I was so bored waiting for stuff to happen that I haven't sat through all of it -- just saw part of the beginning and the outtakes at the end.

Hey man Sphism/gigglesmiley

Sweet vid, all of ya'll look real good Sphism/gigglesmiley

Other people -seem- and I s tress SEEM , I'm not trying to judge it just appears, to be comparing ya'll stuff to rev , arashi , and other insanely technical spinners ( not literally those ones but you get my meaning).

I absolutely love your flow and style, that girl looked quite confident and wasnt shying from the flames, right on, good spinning too. T he devilsticks, I dont know much about them so I cant say good or bad because I dont know what is good or bad in the devilstick terms, but right on is all I say Sphism/gigglesmiley Looked good to me!

Quick thing. Lighten up people. Everything in life has risks. And what is life without it?

Were they're heads on fire? no, so why should there be 'safety' people rushing out?? There was no more unsafeness in them then there is in any fire video. Like thats the first time a wick has flown off?

I get a lot of crap for my opinion on this matter, but oh well. Burns heal, they werent using tea bags so they are not susceptable to major injuries such as molten metal burning it's way to their insides, they werent in a forest lighting up trees, and there were three of them so if ones clothing caught fire it's not as though they're without help.

Once again I just say, lighten up. There is an amount of safety requirements but it doesnt mean you have to be an 'expert' with poi and have the whole fire brigade out there with you.

Loved the video!

Keep them coming Asaf Sphism/gigglesmiley Tell the other two (doesnt know names) that I think they did good Sphism/gigglesmiley

-Poikiddo-

[disclaimer] I dont intend to offend, dont wish to, sorry If I do, not trying to make an arguement, sorry sorry and all that but thats my opinion

I agree with you, poikid... everything in life has risks... and I totally don't think what they were doing was really unsafe. That said, I like having someone around to put the fire out if things DO get out of control.

Usually the people who do safety freak out a bit when things go flying -- so I would have expected that in this case... which says to me that maybe these guys (and indeed everyone) should have someone with a wet towel hanging out when they spin... that's all I'm saying...

well, and if someone's going to over-hype their video as "worth watching" and then ASK for criticism, I'm more than happy to give it to them.

seriously orbit... what were you expecting me to do? double airwrap releases? neck wraps? some crazy stuff that rev does?

I've only been spinning for around 1 year, and spinning fire only since last july, but my level is pretty good for the time I've been spinning, plus I don't know anyone in israel who's better than me on the technical side (no bragging, my teacher told me that... I need to improve the smoothness of some moves and work on my body movements [what did you think of them BTW?] and then I'd probably be the best in israel...)

concluding this post, there probably aren't people that can teach me new moves in israel, so it's harder for me to learn, if I lived in the UK or US, I'd have alot more people to learn from, and help me figure out what I'm doing wrong when trying to learn new moves.

Okay, I watched the video... pretty much all the way through this time. So here's what I think. I think the poi spinning was good, especially for someone as young as you and only spinning for one year. A lot of my issues are actually to do with the editing of the video rather than the poi spinning. The video should have only been 1/3 as long. If you're going to edit a video (have cuts between scenes) then please cut out all the dull bits! At least 3 minutes of that video was watching your unfortunate friend trying to play with the devil stick. I feel sorry for your friend -- fire devil sticks are notoriously slippery. I would cut out most of the devil sticking and all the bits where you're just walking around with the poi or trying to do circles on the ground (why would you put that in the video when it didn't light?)

In terms of spinning, I think you should work on spinning more smoothly, and experiment with moving around in different ways to discover your own style -- having a big mirror (or big windows that act like mirrors) helps a lot, as does spinning to good music (I like music that has a groove and more structure - less repetitive). Forget the tricks and just DANCE... feel the music.

I swear I'm much nicer in person...

first of all, thanks to orbit and poikid for your replies...

now, chutney, as poikid stated, there were 3 of us, and my dad was filming, we had some towels and water next to us in case something happened, and the burning wick was put out simply by blowing at it...
no DISASTER happened, and we tried to be as safe as possible...

now, I started working on body movements 2 weeks ago and am getting pretty good with them, especially with music...

I'm going to make a performance with my friends at IJC 2005(israeli juggling convention), and two of naama's friends if they're going to the convention... (IJC is in april)
