Hello there!

Hi poiple, :57

I thought it would be only polite to introduce myself, as i've been availing of the very cool video tutorials on this site (most of which just hurt my brain). Sphism/winksmiley

I'm Helen, from Dublin, in Ireland. I've been spinning fire poi for a couple of years now, although i have A LOT to learn. About 4 months ago, i quit my sensible job (spinster librarian) and left the country on a one way ticket. I kicked off my travels at Burning Man, in the US, and have since been to Fiji, and i'm currently in New Zealand, where i plan on spending approximately a year. I haven't yet decided what the hell happens next, which is a cool feeling.

Anywho, that's pretty much me for the time being! Do feel free to make yourself comfortable in my thread, and please do help yourself to a tim tam (my new addiction). :17

Hello there and welcome to the site, hope you enjoy it! Sphism/gigglesmiley

Tim-Tams - aren't they just fake Penguins? Sphism/gigglesmiley

welcome aboard.

I was at burningman 2000, 2001, 2002. I had a blast.

My brother is in NZ at the moment, living in christchurch i think.

I really want to go visit him out there but i'm firmly wedgedin brighton at the moment.

I've alway wanted to go exploring all those little pacific islands round there.

Anywho, take it easy and well done for getting out and seeing te world.

¦m¦

welcome to spherculism ... and congrats on picking up and heading out into the world.

I was at Burning Man this year ... ever check out juggling at noonish in center camp? we were there nearly everyday with poi or hoops or meteors or contact balls or whatever the hell else was going on. Perhaps we crossed paths??

Hi guys, thanks for the welcomes!

Christchurch is a cool city -do visit if you can, Matt. As for the tropical islands - bliss. i got very good at lying in hammocks in Fiji Sphism/coolsmiley

Yes, tim tams do ressemble Penguin bars, but somehow they're just much better. And Adop - it keeps pissing rain here so it's just like home. So much for a sunny Christmas. Give all the lads at home my best though. I'm all excited, because tonight i get to juggle fire balls for the first time :22 , to mark the winter (or allegedly summer here) solstice.

Saucy, i may well have seen you at some stage on the playa. i kept not making it to centre camp for noon, because i kept getting distracted by shiny things. Somehow at burning man, wherever i meant to go was the least likely place that i'd end up. I did see some really good spinners though along the esplanade after dark a few nights, some with really cool toys...one of them possibly being you? I was there with the Paddy Mirage getting people pissed on Guinness. What camp were you with?

Getting tempted to go back to Burning Man next year... Sphism/gigglesmiley

Tickets go on sale on January 5th though - really early or is that just me Sphism/confusedsmiley:

Hello and welcome. Sounds like you are traveling the world, im only traveling the states, but would like to get to Ireland at some point to meet the Tepooka crew. Look for burners, theyre everywhere! Im getting to meet some really cool burners from all over the US. Take care and may your wicks burn true!

Mayhem

Just a little hello from an envious lizard girl who is yet to travel the world.

Youre in NZ... in Auckland by any chance? I know some spinners there.

*******
Mayhem,, arnt Tepooka from Edinburgh?

I know nothing, but cold pressed pumpkin oil is really tasty on bread

Tepooka? To be honest, it doesn't ring a bell. Maybe they are Scottish?

I'm currently in Picton, spending Christmas at the jugglers rest hostel. i flew into Auckland, and may end up there at some stage again. I did meet a few spinners there, in Victoria Park - really nice people they were too. Sphism/gigglesmiley i reckon my next stop will be somewhere around Nelson to find some work for a bit, so that i can afford to keep travelling. New Zealand's great though - even if i have spent far too much money here. Apparently there's a regional burn sometime, somewhere here, although i don't know the details - anyone have any clues?

From the Jack Rabbit Speaks (Burning Man email newsletter):

KIWIBURN2 Regional Burn, New Zealand 2-4 January 2005

Kiwiburn2, New Zealand’s second regional Burning Man event will be held
on 2-4 January 2005 in the Anatoki Valley near Takaka, Golden Bay,
South Island, New Zealand. We will hold the event from 2nd to 4th
Jan 2005 on private land as the guests of the Rainbow Community. The
site is in a beautiful valley surrounded by bush (forest) covered
hills. The event will be the first standalone kiwiburn event. Last
year we held the inaugural kiwiburn as part of the similarly-conceived
Visionz festival, which is having a one-year rest after a successful
run of New Years festivals. The event is free, and advertisement
is largely by word of mouth, our kiwburn email list, and here in the
JRS. As such we have no idea as to how many will participate, but
expect it to be in the 50-150 area.

We hope that as many of you come to the event as possible. Please come
and be part of making and shaping what kiwiburn is about.

Email me if you would like information on kiwiburn2, join the email
list, or just want to say gidday. I’ll look forward to seeing some of
you at kiwiburn2!

Hey Rosmerta!

I was at Burning Man this year, too, camped at Winking Lotus, the big yellow dome/stupa near Center Camp on the esplanade. It was a great place... even though I was right near Fire Conclave in one direction and Saucy's camp in another, I didn't get to spend nearly enough time at either of those places... Noonish Juggling at Center Camp was the best, though, as some of the most amazing spinners I've ever seen were all busting out some sick moves.

I organized and spun fire at the Hookahdome jam on Wednesday night (4 o'clock and Esplanade) and later got to spin at Sol System... either Friday or Saturday (hard to remember).

There are some great poi spinners who are going to be in Thailand in January, hanging out on Ko Phan Ngan from early Jan through Full Moon party (but on a different beach). Let me know if you'd be interested in taking a detour over there and I'll dig up the information.

Roger

Roger, thank you so much for the regional burn info - i'm actually relatively near Golden Bay, so i'll definately be going along, if i possibly can. :36 I'm really sorry i missed out on the noon centre camp spinning at burning man - like i said, i wasn't too focused on what time of day it was there - so i had a tendency to miss stuff. I didn't actually do much spinning myself, i preferred to watch and appreciate what amazing stuff some other people were doing. I'm pretty sure i saw the hookahdome jam on wednesday - just happened to be passing and stayed to enjoy. And there was plenty to enjoy! I reckon i'll make it to Thailand at some stage, i hadn't planned on going there so soon, but i'll keep an eye out for a cheap flight deal and you never know...

Again, thanks a million, i'm actually on the JRS newsletter, but it goes to an account i don't check often, so i probably would have missed out if it wasn't for you. :17

Helen

how are you? hows everthing going? :38
Auckland has gone very cold very quickly.... but i'm enjoying having an autumn again, the fire nights might be coming to an end tho which is very sad!
i hope your journey back to ireland was ok, what are you up to at the mo?
miss you lots and lots, hope i'll be able to come over to visit in the not too distant future
take care of yourself,
love and hugs
