is their any reason why the splash screen has to open the main site in a new window? The only other thing to do on the site is to send email and follow a web ring. both those should be avaible on the main page.

it's just better google wise to have an html home page.
What i do is go to the community forum page, log in and bookmark that page. When ever you click that link it will log you in automatically and take you straight there, i never even look at the splash page.

but what does google have to do with opening the rest of the page in a new window or in the same window?
I to bookmark straight to the main page. but I think think the opening in a new window is unnnecesary and annoying.

im no web page building dude.. but im pretty sure you can designate rather a link opens in a new window or not, in php and HTML. just based on many observations made while using websites.

depending on what browser you use, prolly iexplore6 if your on pc, you can specify all links to either follow on same window, or open in a new one....

Nope, it's whether the HTML for the link has the attribute target='_new' (or something similar) in it or not. You can't override it in IE as far as I know.
astar, why not just bookmark the forums page? That's what I do...

Does everyone just ignore what I type? I do bookmark it, the point is the splash screen is unnecesary, don't new people come here? or have you embedded spherculiasm in everyones bookmarks all over the world?

you seem rather hostile over this web page thing. why does it affect your life so much? is it really that annoying to click an extra link and close an extra window? obviously not if you bookmark the community page. i had no issue figuring out to click on 'community' when i first discovered the site. give people credit. based on the numbers who have joined i think people are understanding how to find the site from this splash page thing.
was i worng to assume the splash page is the pretty white and blue page that pops up first? hmmm.... should probably find these things out before nose-ing in....

actually, i've found it a bit annoying sometimes too.
but i just bookmark to the forums now.
i reckon its good to be welcoming, but there's no real need to streamline every aspect of the site to best appeal to people. Thats the kinda things a company does to keep customers, whereas this is a community.

unless I start using profanity, it's best to assume im using a dry sarcastic sort of tone that im permantly affixed with.
also I love stream lineing everything and anything, maybe I should work for the evil empire of proctor and gamble (who are using a super computer to analyze and reengineer the shape of pringles so they can run the conveyor belt faster without them flying off)

The page opens in a _blank thingy instead of a _self thingy
it's like that cos then when you leave sph'ism you still have a sph'ism window open. It is anoying, you're right.
I can change it very easily and i promise i will do so. Thing is i'm just lazy and i've been meaning to change that crappy splash page for ever, it's only sposed to be temp.
