Hello from my Island!

Hey everyone, ended up here through soton-firespinning.co.uk and thought i'd let myself be known!

hmm, what to say Sphism/smilesmiley I used to live on the Isles of Scilly, but have now left to find my way in the world, well southampton for the moment!

I have a degree in english, started spinning poi about six months ago after my girlfriend got me into it. one of the best things that could have ever happened to nme, both her and poi Sphism/winksmiley

I play guitar, self taught years ago, and i love making films, photography and writing most of all. Just started on my first full length novel which is a bit daunting! but also cool!

Thats probably most stuff about me, oh and i'm a massive pearl jam fan, owning far too many records and a big music geek in general having used to have a show on Radio Scilly, produced in a shed Sphism/smilesmiley

Anyway happy spinning dudes

Aha! Glad you joined us Sphism/smilesmiley

Sounds like you've got a lot of interesting creative impulses Sphism/smilesmiley- What genre is your novel? I wish I had the patience and self belief to write, but so far the self conviction has evaded me..

Stick with Spherculism and your poi will go through the roof- watch a few of matts vids from time to time and the inspiration will come Sphism/smilesmiley

Happy spinning (and writing etc etc)

Hmm, genre, well i guess its a sociological comedy thriller. maybe Sphism/smilesmiley

Never really felt like I've been confined to one genre, my most recent stories have ranged from childrens surrealist stories, kind of Alice in Wonderland style, to heroin addict/mental patient reality questions short story, and a "coming of age" although i hate that term, story about a guy who uses music to explain certain periods in his life and how they helped him through that. oh and i did a bit of crime/black comedy for my dissertation once upon a time!

I'm desaperate to improve my poi and this seems to be the place to do it, so i will be sticking around!

Hello there, welcome to the site! Sphism/gigglesmiley

My girlfriend has just finished writing a novel, almost 150,000 words written although that might get trimmed a bit when she starts working on the second draft next week. But it only took her just over 3 months which is quite impressive!

Zoiks! 150,000 in 3 months-
I struggle to write 2500 thousand in the same time...

I'm not meant for the literary or academic life me...

the thing is somtimes you just go completely manic, i wrote about 6000 words on friday whjilst i was having somekind of fit! although by the end of that session i was drained!

Nah, she wrote 2000 words every day in the morning before doing anything else and that was it - and stopped when she got there no matter what! I think the only time she wrote much more than that was a couple of days nearer the end when she was doing some freelance work as well and had to skip a couple of days of writing, but even then she only did 3-4000 words each day.

Seems to have worked for her. She's going back to it today after a break of a couple of weeks from finishing to start doing a second draft...
