Using buttons as handles is according to my experience the best way of parting Meteors to Poi. Two buttons on strings/chains connect perfectly together and are easy to seperate/combine.
Depending on the design even Butterfly throws are possible.
One topic that got lost in the crash, so lets go again:
Possible throws:
Horizontal (easier): From a helicopter push the point of rotation into the air. The meteor will automatically fly stable in the air. You can kick a horizontal throw many times into the air (check out the Video in this section)
Meteors are spinning equipment like everything else - so please treat them the way they deserve it. Give em swivels! Each end one. Especially the Butterflies will thank you :!:
ok ok, they dont NEED swivels. But they make spinning more comfortable . . .
Ok this is a bit stupid, yeah really stupid and silly but Ive had dreams where I pictured myself using it perfectly (which is great because Ive hardly learned any staff or meteor)
Imagine something sort of like a seeing eye cane combined with a chain whip.
Somehow this forums seems to become my personal diary . . . anyway . . .
x:y is possible with meteors. "Easiest" of course a 2 : 1
The butterfly is still quite messy but I am working on it. Think COL6 gonna have some meteor spinning on it!
I am more and more convinced that everything is possible - its all about how to control this ONE point.
For those of you who are already playing with meteors and want to improve their control.
Just play with a chain - no special things attached to the ends, no knots.
I am feeling a lil bit alone in here . . . anyway:
Off center moves: Holding the meteor not in the center (where you "should" hold it for clean symmetric spinning) but off center (quite obvious description)
Hold it off center so one end is shorter - the other longer
Center-Isolations: Take the meteor off center (closer to the ends) and let it spin around the center (middle of the string). The hands do the same movement as in an isolation with Poi.
Off-Center-Isolations: Take the meteor at the center (middle of the string) and let it rotate around a point of center (closer to the ends)
I saw Volume 1 for the first time on Saturday (I'm too poor to go to the cinema regularly!!), and made my friends watch the scene with Gogo and The Bride fighting about six times while I sat a foot from the screen... Is this wrong of me??!
How do you change between Butterflies and Weaves ?
My suggestions so far:
Weave -> Butterfly :
Kick one End (Easiest: The leading Poi on its second rotation on one side)
Catch one End And Throw it back in
Stall one end let and let it change direction while the other end keeps rotating (Traditional Maori Move)
First and Foremost: This is not an offensive thread !
But I am really interested in your view of the differences since it is troubeling my mind for some time already.
Matt, you mentioned that you spin with a leading end. I understand where you are coming from, but in my oppinion it is one of the most important aspects of Meteors that one is able to switch between the leading Ends (does no more spin with leading ends). 3 beat Weave and derivatives for example.
They consist of a rope or chain with an equal weight at either end.
The one I use is about as long as I am tall. This is a good length for doing staff moves and poi moves along with rope dart and of course meteor moves.
